Why should I fear the draft? I live here. I take advantage of the freedoms this military provides. If the draft is re-instated and I am called I will proudly serve to the best of my ability. While I think that this senator's reasoning is flawed, I have nothing against the draft itself.

The military is protecting you from Iraqis taking your freedom? Thank goodness Hussein has been captured or he could be oppressin gus!!

College doesn't get you out of the draft anymore.

Is there medical reasons why you can't be drafted? For instance, what if you only have one kidney?

I think you still have to pass a medical exam.
So get on Ebay and sell those organs. You can make some many AND dodge the draft! Sweet Deal!

I just love how so many people love the freedoms they have, (including the freedom to post their opinions right here without fear of being dragged off to prison if the say something the government doesnt like) and yet they are so opposed to even consider taking a stand and maybe fighting for them. The word may be FREEDOM but is sure doesn't come free, in fact it is one of the most costly things anyone of us has and yet we really do underappreciate it.

One of my best friends is from mainland China and can not even think of going home to see his family because he would be immediately thrown into prison because he was involved in the Tiananmen Square protests trying to get freedom for the people of his country. Now a days it seems freedom is worthless to those who have it, but it is priceless to those who don't.

We should lighten the numbers of our jail cells by releasing them with a gun in Iraq. This is a win-win situation. :p

This thread is sad because of the ignorance of the OP, and the people that say they wouldn't serve if drafted.

If the draft was reinstituted, 18 year olds would be more likely to vote in the general elections (and the Dub would be in trouble)

What's worse, 18 year olds voting or Dubya in office? :p Sort of pick your poison there. In all seriousness I don't see a draft happening. Even if it somehow got legislative support, why would Bush sign it? Unless it was passed in his second term and he lame-ducked it. The American public doesn't have a heart for the draft, and most spoiled rotten 18-25 year old kids don't have the balls not to run to Canada. Well, I take that back, Vietnam didn't really have a purpose except for putting our boys in a meat grinder. Even though, you play the cards you are dealt. My father didn't run to Canada when he was drafted.

The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

Nice, I'm 26.
I'd go if I was drafted of course though... I actually considered signing up soon after 9/11.

You ungrateful little bastards, that you wouldn't put down your mouse for a year and go and defend the country that has brought you so much. Your forefathers would be disgusted with you all. Selfish swine!

BTW I'm 26. Have fun in Iraq

And for what it's worth I wouldn't count on a draft happening any time soon. Furthermore it hits up younger kids rather than older ones. Ie, if you're 20 you'll be picked before a 25 year old.

Also, though it may not be applicable, I think it makes sense for the gov't to grab a mcdonalds worker highschool dropout before a medschool student. That's just common sense.

Why, you think they'd rather have a dumbass slacker for a soldier or an intelligent over achiever for a soldier?

Doesn't make much sense to pull somebody out of medschool for a couple of years, considering that the country needs more doctors - not more mcdonalds workers. And that person's potential will be maximized in a medical position rather than a military one, since they'd be unlikely to stay in the military long enough to get far in it anyway.

I can't believe this is still people discussed. Folks, this isn't going to happen. The people with the power and influence to pass a draft have all stated that they have no need nor desire for a draft.

It ain't happening.

End of thread.
