woke up at 6 for the sunrise. took a few shots. severely limited by my now-limited lens selection.. all i had was a ultrawide and a 17-50mm. no detailed panoramas for me :(

if you install opera mini AT looks fantastic on the mogul. pocket IE isn't worth a damn.

fbb, how the fuck do you finance all these trips. And I am quite jealous because you're doing exactly what I want - travel solo. Must be quite a liberating experience sleeping under the stars. You should start a blog of all your travels

Did a scorpion bite you on your ass yet? I'd be scared of sleeping on top of a desert sand dune.

wish i had an SO to share this with. i guess i'm sharing it with you guys instead.

lake powell is kick ass. going to las vegas tomorrow and living by lake mead for a while. i'll venture into las vegas for some supplier and for photos at night. anyone know where i can go to take pictures of the city at night? like someplace with so good height?

It's not free, as far as I know, but the Eiffel Tower at the Paris should give you some good shots of the strip. The Paris is kind of in the middle, so it stretches out in both directions. The deck goes around the whole tower, so you can shoot in all directions pretty easily. Plus, the Bellagio is right across the street, so you can take some nice aerial shots of the fountain shows, which are excellent.

Watch out for the Gila Monsters.

Thank the Lord for Gila Monsters! They take the Spit from the Gila Monster to make Byetta!

I can't stand the thought of doing stuff like that without someone with me. Whats the point?

I don't care about the moment myself, I just like to share it I guess.

I saved up about $4,000 during my internship. Gas is cheap for me because I can go 40mpg, and I can live on $5 a day or less for food. 1,500 miles is $150 in gas for me. $5 a day for food is like 200 days for $1,000. Camping is free if you find free camping in national parks and public lands. $30 a month for SERO cell phone with internet. $45 a month for car insurance. The car provides the electricity via an inverter. Road tripping is fairly cheap if you do it right and have the right car.

How far of a hike was it to this sand dune?

It was probably a mile, but I was approaching it from the wrong side an had to do a 45 degree climb on all fours with my camera gear on. If you approach it from the normal side (the trailhead) the climb isn't nearly as bad. I did mine from the free campground side :(

5$/day for food is pretty skimpy, I usually figure at least 10 and that's skimping too...

I would love to be doing what you are right now, but like I said the idea makes me sad unless I have a SO-type person with me... :(

ditto.

i too dont like traveling solo. i spent 2weeks touring eastern europe. i drove everywhere. saw some amazing scenary, and took tons of pics. that was 2yrs ago. to this day i havent revisited those pics. (i'm actually have the 2gig sd in my hand right now.) and i have no interest to.

but a friend of mine took 4months walking the Appalachian Trail, and he loved it.

so to each their own.

fuzzy:
how the hell are you surviving on $5/day food?!

If you eat things like 68 cent cans of soup, it's pretty easy.. lol

Could live like a king on 5$/day if you really wanted to. OK, maybe not a king, but you certainly wouldn't go hungry. Although it would be crap food health wise.

Food:

PB&J on wheat bread
Ramen noodle minus the packets
Canned tuna
Canned Pork and Beans
Rotisserie Chicken ($6 for an entire chicken)
Water with Pink Lemonade mix
Canned veggies
Hard boiled eggs
Instant rice
Multivitamin

Ramen + Tuna in Oil tastes like tuna noodle casserole.

And yeah, I do wish I had a SO. A few years back I wouldn't have cared, but now I do. I see so many couples on my trips, and I experience so many things that would just be perfect with a like-minded SO. If anything, my trips are usually extremely picturesque and would be very romantic if I had a SO. Just a few days ago I saw a guy being pretty serious with his photography and his girlfriend was by his side taking photos herself. It was a very romantic sunset and it made me feel painful inside. I can say all I want about how I'm independent this and independent that, but at the end of the day what I really am is lonely.

lawls

$5 a day is EZ if making ones own but that is easier at home of course versus travelling. Unless you have got some big bags of bulk staples like rice.
