I wasn't super hyped about this game beforehand so I'm not really disappointed but I was expecting better. The levels are extremely small and repetitive and the monsters/demons are just way too easy to kill. Seems like there's very little "meat and bones" to this game but that could be because it's just a demo.

That's cause you're playing the free version. Once you start paying monthly there will be more for you, just trust them.

I do believe there is not supposed to be any difference between payed and free before they start adding content (future content is supposed to be for paying players exclusively).

@ 450R: This is a demo, which I would imagine is supposed to only show a very small portion of a large game - after all, like with Diablo, the levels are randomly generated so that they are NOT repetitive in the full game.

Well, I have something to add after just playing a little bit of it. Great game, could definitely use some work, but there is one aspect that really bugs the hell out of me. That is the hairstyles. Are we to believe that this post-apocalyptic world has "emo" saviors? This is apparently a battle of good and evil, not a freaking prelude to a Fall Out Boy concert.

I seriously hope they do something about that, although I doubt they will. I just don't understand what the Diablo Team was thinking when they went over the designs...

They were apparently thinking about the teenagers; having emo hair styles sells nowadays, I guess.

Besides, they even made "NVIDIA The Way It's Meant To Be Played" logos on many of the metro/underground base's walls. I thought it was completely unjustified, out-of-place, unfitting, and took out the "seriousness" and "believability" elements out of the game. It just turns the whole thing into a fast-food BF2142 wannabe (I don't know what the hell is wrong with developers nowadays but they need to know that placing real-world ads in fantasy-based games is idiot).

Man, I was really looking forward to this game. The gameplay videos and trailers made it look amazing, but after actually playing it, this game is a pile of shit to be honest. It seems so amateur, I'm really disappointed. I'm so glad there was a demo released, cause I was planning on just going out and buying HGL from what I've seen, but now I just don't even want it, or bargain binner at best. What a let down.

This has me worried about Starcraft 2 and Street Fighter 4. Even Team Fortress 2 which I just bought, although it's a great game, I'm having a lot of problems connecting to servers, as well as graphical glitches that result after a lagspike. I already contacted Steam about getting a refund cause currently it remains unplayable for me, we'll see how that goes.

Basically about killing lots of monsters then finding loot and taking it back to sell while keeping the good stuff. Fighting the mini bosses or the special monsters are pretty fun cause they're kind of tough and they spill out a bunch of loot when they die :D

So far (from the demo) the game interface is at best annoying. Titan quest seems a whole lot cleaner. Also seems kind of boring and lack luster. Not sure why the interface is so slugish/unnatural.

I downloaded the demo...and for me...I like the game. I think it is on my to-buy list. BUT...as soon as I was done playing the demo, I got accepted for the BETA. Which was a 4 gig download. So I downloaded it :) Is there any difference in the two versions ? I think I read somewhere that the BETA is the full game with MP support ? True ? Untrue ?

True. And in the BETA that MP support is online ONLY. I have not played the MP BETA yet so I'm unaware if the provision for LAN games is in there.

Personally, my internet connection sucks (50KB/s with 400ms pings...better than dialup, but still sucks!) so online play is not possible for me.

I'm almost finished downloading the single player demo that came out today...one hour to go. :)

I was in the alpha way back. They would have had to have drastically changed the game for me to even consider buying it.

I haven't gone far in the demo yet, but wow, seriously disappointed. this is nothing like either of the Diablo games. gameplay is boring, the enemies pretty much suck. most of the time they just stand there and you can just sit back and shoot them.

i played as a marksman. i know in real life that standing still and having a good stance can aid in accuracy, but in a game like this, making skills that root you to the ground is not a good idea.

everyone keep saying if you liked diablo, you'll like this. IMO, no way... this is crap so far.

EA? Well that seals the deal for me. Hellgate can fail in a fire.

I got into the MP beta the other day, so I guess I'll have to try that instead of this from what people are saying.

EDIT: Let's just hope it's interesting... I didn't play Mythos for more than a day, because it got kind of boring .

Hasn't that been in the EULA of EA games since Battlefield 2?

i don't understand how or why it would be any different other than playing with other people?

It wouldn't. The basic game(play) is lacking - adding more players or extras/frills isn't going to suddenly make it good.

Played the gun class this time... the guns look fugly. It's like they didn't bother texturing them and just shined the hell out of them. Funner than the sword class but not fun enough.

Completely agree. It feels like a game back in 2003/2004, or even before that period, it just feels old. I too, thought that it'd be "like Diablo", but, seriously, the actual original Diablo IS a better game, and Diablo II is the epitome of PC gaming compared to Hellgate: London. I'd rather go at my local store and buy D2 again (even though I quit it a few months ago) rather than even give a further chance to Hellgate.

I really don't know what happened ... but I think those developers can't create a 3-D game by today's standards, I think they've dealt too long with 2-D games in their life. Instead they should have made Hellgate: London a very beautiful 2-D game, THAT, I think, would have worked nice. Especially when you consider that D2 players DEMAND another sequel without too much changes in the game style, interface and presentation. If they wanted to give a nod to the Diablo series they should have never went with a 3-D game in the first place, it's just that bad, in my opinion.

I use Vista and the demo wouldn't start for me until I got Vista all patched up. It requires some virtual memory patch and other stuff.

I just played what I think is the whole demo; it doesn't actually END...you just sort of keep running from portal to portal and after much exploring and button clicking to make sure you haven't missed some hidden quest you say "Well...I guess that's it."

The whole demo took me about 90 minutes to play and I explored everything after I killed the monsters.

I hate to echo others b/c it makes it look like I don't have my own opinion.

I do have my own opinion...and the game is "Meh."

I'm really disappointed!!!! Seriously. I have been looking forward to this game for a long time. If you watch the trailers you get psyched. Then you play this SP demo and there is no "DRAMA." You don't feel like "Ooooooh! I'm gonna fight the devil hordes and save the world! What a cool cutscene! Sign me up!' Etc, etc, etc.

It didn't crash on my system. Levels loaded quickly. "Background-task-wise" it ran w/o a hitch, and that's good.

The menu system/button system (i.e. move this thing to this slot and do something/click this to use this) is totally messed up. Almost every single shooter that has a ranged weapon/weapon w/a scope uses right-click to zoom. In this game it's "2." As in the number 2. WTF?

I played with the graphics maxxed, just to see how it looked (as opposed to wanting smooth visuals) and the environment is nice. Smoke, in particular looks real. If you move to the other side of a barrel w/a fire inside it, the objects on the other side look blurry. Very realistic. Weapons effects suck. This gun shoots a small fireball with no splash damage. This other gun here shoots a big fireball with big splash damage. How original. I'd prefer basic 9mm/M16/Grenade launch/Rocket launcher/Redeemer weapon scaling to this crap.

But the guns, zombies, crates, walls, buildings...they look cheap. Enemy AI is non existent.

As long as you stay outside the predetermined, invisible circle of "OH, I see you!" they don't even know you're there.

The game has lots of cool ideas though. Upgradeable weapons and armor, relocator device, upgrade point system and 100 places/skills to put said points, lots of special "one off" weapons. But it just doesn't grab you. :(

The weapons in the demo suck. The enemy actions are so obviously "programmed" for lack of a better term.

You can count on the same type of enemy behaving exactly the same, running the same zig-zag pattern towards you, taking the same number of shots before collapsing and making the exact same sound when dying AND falling into the exact same position. No ragdoll effects here.

I won't be spending $50 on this. When it's $20, I'll buy it for sure but other than that, no.

My two cents.

Well, after getting both the Blademaster and the Marksman to level 5, I would have to say that I am disappointed. The game is fun, but you can tell that the animations were done either half-assed, or they were done by an amateur. The weapons for the Marksman are pretty cool, but I am a bit dissatisfied that every weapon has infinite ammo. Granted, the amount that each enemy takes would drain you dry very quickly, but it just turns the game into a "spray n pray" game.

The effects really irked me. A "rocket pistol" can blow a zombie into tiny charred bits, but it cannot even scar a glass window, let alone break it? The lack of ragdolls, enemy models, AI patterns, and even loot is enough to make me want to play something else. Not only that, but the NPCs apparently are apparitions as you can walk right through them. I don't know, I guess I am just tired of being yet another nameless hero who is stronger than even the most elite characters in the story, but has never been heard of. Reminds me of Oblivion. Only difference is, I love Oblivion.

Still, I will be getting this game as I love FPSs / RPGs and it's still pretty fun. The graphics and animations could definitely use some more work. I won't be buying this game for full price mind you, I shall wait until this drops considerably in price.

I really prefer titan quest. I did finish the demo and i find some of the icon/objects confusing but the overall response is the game is just flat - the movement feels jerky and the tempo is horrible. Is the actual game better than the demo? I mean normally a demo is suppose to show off the best aspects of the game. There should be a poll on this thread (the demo is great, the demo is ok, the demo sucks) you know so we can see some qualitative response - though I'm not sure anyone has said anything positive (yet).

this isn't an FPS. zooming is actually a skill, thats why its on the menu bar. you can move it to the right side circle, beside your power sphere for the right click action. it takes power points when you use it and you can't move while using it. seems pretty worthless at this stage of the game though.
