Well, technically, it's only purpose in my living room is to be a really nice DVD/Blu-Ray player. I'm a movie fanatic and I couldn't justify buying new titles on regular DVD anymore when they were available on Blu-Ray/HD-DVD.

Now I just need an HD-DVD player and I'm set.

No games yet. 20GB PS3, used, bought it off Craigslist for $300.

why didn't you go for the ps3 deal with the sony card.

349.99 plus tax.

you also get 5 free movies. they aren't the greatest ones but they free. Plus its new. Seems worth the extra 50 bucks in my book.

There's not enough exclusive games for me to justify buying it and having to hear it for about a week or so.

Do you have a 360? The 360 add on is really nice for HD DVDs (unless you really want lossless audio).

I don't want/need a Sony card; plus the discount isn't reflected for 8-12 weeks (like a rebate).

I got one today :p

Yah I don't know how you could honestly say you'd rather have a $300 used 20gb PS3 than a brand new 60gb PS3 + 5 free BR movies + the warranty and all :p

definitely picking up Heavenly Sword... well who wants to get it as a birthday present, considering it is released on my b-day? ;)

and lupi is correct... I consider jpeyton the head figure of the anti-Sony movement. :)
at least I had.. now I just have to laugh due to his slight change of heart.

why are you shocked? I'm a console whore. And the PS3 still has no games. :p

if it wasn't so damn cheap + no interest for 12 months + 5 free BR movies (which I'm going to sell and put the $$ towards my PS3) i would not have gotten one yet. i always planned to get one, just not this soon. but the deal was too good to pass. we may never see a PS3 for as little as $350 the PS3's entire lifespan.

i talk bad about sony ... but i also talk bad about nintendo and MS as well. all 3 of these companies are doing dumb stuff every day heh.

i'm just unbiased and have an opinion about everything when it comes to games :p

You can make fun of me all you want, but never make fun of my 'hot deal' prowess ;) I draw the line at opening up new lines of credit just for a rebate (even a $150 one).

And technically the PS3 only cost me $265 after I traded in the included (but unwanted) games for credit at a local game store. Also came with a second SixAxis controller. So I don't think I did so bad.

I already got my Blu-Ray library started with the $6.99 Blu-Ray price mistake on Best Buy's website last weekend.

I might rent Resistance. My next purchase is definitely going to be Bioshock.

I think it is safe to say he has redeemed himself now. I went to the store a few weeks ago to get a PS3 after the price drop, walked out with Gears of War and the matching console.

You mean HD-DVD isn't winning the format war?

jpeyton - netflix rents everything so you don't need to buy. Some very nice looking titles:
- The Fountain
- Curse of the Golden Flower
- Shooter (dumb fun popcorn movie, but great picture)

This might sound funny, but "The Fifth Element" is one of my ATF movies. When I heard Sony released a remastered Blu-Ray (after that fiasco with the initial Blu-Ray release), it pushed me over the edge.

Plus I know that when Transformers comes out, I won't be satisfied with the regular DVD release.

I've already got some Blu-Ray titles coming via NetFlix; the Hollywood Video near me has a mediocre selection of Blu-Ray titles (probably 30 total), but they seem to be adding all the new releases immediately. I have unlimited free rentals there, so I hope they expand their library quickly.

I own the collector's edition Fifth Element DVD so no mockery from me :)

I'd also be pre-ordering the PS3 version of Stranglehold, except that I already own the Criterion DVD of Hard Boiled. It's a great movie but not quite worth $70 to me for a 1080p upgrade unless the game itself is really good.

Just ordered the PS3 with the $350 sonystyle deal that's on now. It's my first console since the Atari 2600 days, and I to will be using it to watch movies.

I look at this as a chance to get to play some cool PS2/3 console games, AND watch high-def movies.

I'll probably get a HD-DVD player as well, probably this fall, depending on how everything goes. Maybe if MS puts out a Xbox with a built-in HD-DVD, I'll get that instead, and have two consoles :)

It's a good movie player. I'm quite pleased with it as an upscaling DVD player. What good is good credit when you don't use it to get deals like this?

Well, I already have an XBOX 360, but it can't upscale DVDs with the current setup, because I'm not using HDMI or VGA with my TV. If I remember right, it has to be one of those two to upscale the DVDs.

I'll have to think about it, I mean there are some movies that only come out on Blu-Ray that I wouldn't mind owning .
