Hehe, Priest Jams Cell Phones at Mass

Good for him....I don't know how many times I've gone postal on idiots in the theater with their cell phones ringing every 5 minutes or worse the A-holes that hold a conversation on theirs in the middle of the movie. Ripped one out of the hand of a teenage punk when I was watching Ice Age earlier this week.

They did that in a school district (Montgomery County) here a few years back I think. I feel that kids should be able to have them in school just if they get called/paged during class, they should have those privileges taken away. A few years back I was at a restaurant having lunch and the guy sitting next to me (in a different party) was talking to his brother or something about weather to cremate or burry his mother. It made the chicken salad taste much better!!

it might seem like a good idea, but i don't like it. what if someone was trying to contact you with information about an emergecy, like a loved one was just in a bad car accident.

What i wouldn't give for one of those in the movie theatres. I hate the teen's yapping away about which shoes they are going to buy when i just spent $7 to get away from that exact noise for 90 min..... I think im getting old.

I wish the state of California would install those jamming devices along all of the freeways. Perhaps, then, I wouldn't have to back off or swing wide around every lame brained jerk talking on his cell phone and weaving back and forth over three lanes of traffic while travelilng at 45 MPH in the fast lane which would other wise be flowing at 70 MPH.

Before anyone can get a cell phone they should be required to take a test to prove that they know where the "off" button is.

But then, that would probably be asking too much of the average Californian with an attention span of 15 seconds and the educational equivalent of a fourth grader even though they have a college degree from the University of California.

Maybe it was that they were trying to put them in or something, it was 3 years back, the hell if I know! 😀

if you're that concerned that something horrible will happen, then don't go to that church. nobody is forcing you.

HappyPuppy, I *think* that CA has passed a hands-free law, but it's not really being enforced yet. About time....

I've noticed the Casinos in Vegas have done something like this. Every casino I was in was a dead cell zone within twenty feet of the entrance.

No they weren't.

I can't believe you said that, dude! 😀

Hmmm, I'd love it if they would install some of these things in all the classrooms at my university.

Maybe (in the US) eventually there will be some kind of licensing that can be done, and some areas will be permitted to use the jammers.

Cell phones ringing in classes, movies, and the like piss me off. Is it that hard to put them on silent mode? I wouldn't mind having one of those jammers 🙂

i don't go to church, but others in this thread are making comments about using this technology in movie theatres and on the freeway. My comment was made in a general sense, not just church.

Well, for the average person, they don't need to have their cell phone on during church, movies, class, etc. Before the time of cell phones, people got by just fine. However, if a doctor who is on "backup call" or something to that effect has to stay in touch with the hospital, then they are kinda screwed if they go to church on Sunday, or anywhere else where their signal would be jammed. There are professions out there that REQUIRE that people be reachable at a moments notice.

That's a big pet peeve of mine too. And what's cool, IMO, is that people in LA theaters have had enough. A couple of times when I hit the theaters in LA and someone's cell would go off at least a dozen people in the audience yelled at the person. It was pretty cool. Rage on the manorless cell user. Not to be confused w/the manored cell user (like me 😀) who keeps his cell on "silent/vibrate" ringer.
