<<There are professions out there that REQUIRE that people be reachable at a moments notice.>>

Then they should have a pager set on pleasure mode (buzz). If they are paged during church, movie, etc, they can get up and go to a phone and return the call.
Doctors got along just fine with pagers before, and they can do so now.

<< I've noticed the Casinos in Vegas have done something like this. Every casino I was in was a dead cell zone within twenty feet of the entrance. >>

No they weren't.

😀 <-- Verizon Wireless user.

What casinos did you go in? My Cingular, my mother's Sprint, my GF's Nextel and my mom's friend's Verizon were all dead (or extremely weak and spotty) in the Paris, Belagio, NYNY, Excalibar, Ceasers and Oriental. They worked in the hotel itself, but not on the floors of the casinos.

I believe that casinos do block some channels because of cheaters that are wired.

right, but jamming cell phones would also do the same for pagers, they are on the same frequency

Cell phone jammers should be a necessity in all theaters, restaurants, churches, school classes, anywhere where most people wouldnt think of taking a call, it shouldnt be allowed, period. I fvcking can't stand the ringing, I cant stand the interruption, and most of all I cant stand loud and annoying people on their phone that talk loud enough that the person theyre talking to doesnt even need the phone to hear them!

If theres an emergency, you'll hear about it when you get out of the theater. Ignorance is bliss. This system worked for centuries until now, and it will still work.

I have a cell phone, and I love my cell phone, but none of us NEED it. You know, 5 years ago the world functioned perfectly fine without cell phones. Nowadays if someone's phone is turned off people get frustrated and/or worried because they cant reach that person.

I don't think that would be legal (interfering with licensed communication). The article even says that such devices are illegal in the US.

BTW, Verizon?s signal was good enough to use all over inside the MGM Grand (where I stayed), and I made a call from deep inside the Venetian (I think). I didn?t pay all that close attention everywhere I went. The floor of a casino in general is probably just not friendly to radio signals that come in from outside. Too many metal items that block signals.

It's the people who bring/use their cell phones in schools, chruches, theatres, cars etc that have turned me off of cell phones altogether.

<< it might seem like a good idea, but i don't like it. what if someone was trying to contact you with information about an emergecy, like a loved one was just in a bad car accident. >>

Maybe back in the day when people had cell phones for emergency contact purposes(911, AAA, etc), but now its just a fashion tool that everybody has, people call each other for the most unimportant things.

and before 1990, when cell phones wasnt prevalent, how did you guys live then? you guys are making it sound like that you cant live without a cellphone these days.

Everybody is mentioning bad places to use your cell phones like church, movies, schools, etc. but think about this:

Enjoying a nice, peaceful day outdoors - hiking hours up to the top of your favorite mountain, away from all the nitty gritty, horns, cars, civilization. Reaching the summit, breathing in the fresh air, enjoying the beautiful scenery then...

"Hey! Honey!!! Your never going to guess where I am now!", or "Just calling to see if I remembered to shut the oven off". Nothing is worse, dis-respectful, or rude than using your cell phone for useless chatter when your on a hiking trail or the sort. These people are truly clueless, idiots. It's one thing having to put up with some loser having a conversation in a movie theater, but to put up with that in the one place you go to get away from it, no respect man, no respect.
