Which "RS" are you referring to? Just curious.

Focus. If the SVT version wasn't so damned slow it'd be a perfect next car for me. I know my parents want me to get a 4 door Japanese sedan though, but the Accord seems just too damn boring. The 6 I might look at but the Altima pretty much fits everything I want and that my parents want to. Sorry I should have been more specific about the RS

The Audi RS6? If so I want to be your friend since it'll cost you about $85K to buy. It is being imported over from Europe. Saw one at the NY Auto show and it was sweet.

Considering that you're posting about an hour after he explained what he meant by RS...shame on you!!! :p

Sorry. I'm about to pass out. I played and walked 18 holes of golf today in 45 degree weather in a pouring rain, took all this allergy medicine, had a few drinks and just ate a nice MSG loaded chinese dinner.

You're rational sucks, it's more than an upgraded Altima, way more.

You're = you are. Its your. And rational = rationale. And it's my opinion, what do I care what you think? Oh and the guy in the article agrees:

For at least $4,000 less, you can own a V-6 Altima, which does virtually everything the Maxima can do, and looks better to boot. The Maxima's only advantages are a few horsepower, an upgraded interior and more standard features.

It has no more passenger room, a useless console in the rear section as an option, uglier styling, costs more, and is roughly "just as fast" for thousands more. So what exactly is worth it on the Maxima to buy it over an Altima.

I'd like a nice explanation :p

Oh my god, NFS4 and me have agreed in 2 successive car threads! What has this world come to?!? :Q :Q :Q

I'd go for a G35 sedan for the price of the Max.. while I don't mind the Max, I think it has no market placement really...

Yep. You can get a G35 6-speed with leather and sport package for roughly $29,500. Screw the Maxima!!!

I drove my brother's 2002 Maxima this weekend. I gunned it one time, to pull into traffic, and the torque steer actually yanked the wheel out of my hands. Almost caused a wreck. :frown:

Does the '04 Max not come with LSD to remedy/minimize the torque steer problem?

But yeah, I'd get a G35 over the Maxima.
The '04 Maxima is basically an upgraded (and uglier) Altima... not enough distinctions away from the Altima as well.
Same body, similar looking, but nicer interior.
Other than the rear buckets, skyview, and "20 magical hp", it's not dramatically different.

Yes and the interior of the G35 is sweet. I finally saw one in person at the auto show and the dash was very impressive. If I were to get a new car now, it'd be a G35 or G35 coupe.

What's so funny?
Have you any clue what an LSD does?
From your battery thread, I assume not

Yes... I know what an LSD does. It limits slip between the two half axles. How do YOU think that minimizes torque steer?? Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't torque steer have nothing to do with wheel slippage?

Sorry, the nested quotes are getting too long.

Torque steer, for high-torque FWD cars under heavy acceleration, is caused by the unequal length (or angles) of drive shafts transmitting power to the wheels/ground at different rates.

That means one wheel is spinning (slipping) more than the other. With an open differential, it will apply more power to the spinning (slipping) wheel further worsening the problem, which causes the torque steer phenomenon.

That's where the LSD comes in to fix the problem, or at least attempt to.

LOL...thought you guys were talking about acid :p Was wondering how that would help handling. :)

Like in the commercials, LSD = transfers power to the wheels that slip, to the wheels that grip :p

People can't agree on what causes torque steer, but I have never heard of it being related to slippage.

It is seriously FUGLY. I saw one on the road the other day and almost rammed into a sideby tree ....

but in a very "limited" fashion and the "L" stands for. In a car like Maxima it's just plain crappy. Needless to say nowhere near a genuine AWD like Audi or Subaru's.

I'm sorry, but the V8 Northstar that powers the STS and DTS puts out 300 lb-ft of torque.

I'm by no mean a physician or a mechanic, but I read that the reason why Caddies don't have a lot (if any?) torque steer is because the shaft is equal in lenght between the two front wheels.

I have personally driven a STS and floored it at about 10MPH... and while it has been a long time, I didn't remember being bothered by torque steer.

I don't think the car knows or cares whether it's wheel hop, wheel slip, etc.
As long the wheels are spinning at a different rate (as it does in torque steer), that's all the LSD cares about.
