i saw one of these in person and the car does look a lot better in person than real life, and as for the wheel hop and torque steer prob, Acura, Cadillac and Audi haven't made FWD cars with the amount of torque that the Nissan engine puts out.

Torque steer is largely a function of suspension design. It can be engineered out of a car. (Though it is rather cost prohibitive to do so.)

Well, he's a little harsh, but as much as I've liked the Maxima in the past, he's right. It's redundant in Nissan/Infiniti's lineup.

I haven't driven it yet (obviously) but there is no way I would buy it over a G35 sedan, or a number of other cars.

On top of that, it's really ugly.

I test drove an SE model with all the options two days ago, and honestly, I couldn't DISAGREE more with the guy from CNN. Honestly, when I first saw the car in pictures, it looked disgusting, but after seeing it in person and up close, the design is really quite nice. I don't understand his quarrel with the skyview roof. It's not bad - and it sure looks a lot more interesting than nothing at all. And why does he not like the Elite package's bucket seats?!?!?! I think they're awesome :)

Honestly, torque steer should only be a problem for people pushing their car to the limits. Obviously most people who buy the Maxima aren't looking to do that (I think that most Maxima owners are in their late 40's), and I'd guess that they wouldn't even notice. I couldn't hardly feel any torqu steer when I drove it, and I was pushing the car hard.

"The Maxima's only advantages are a few horsepower, an upgraded interior and more standard features."
ONLY advantages?!?!? ONLY?!?! Honestly, I think this reviewer is full of sh!t - each of those make the maxima TOTALLY different, and better, than an altima.

it is ugly, I'd get a VW GTi.
The GTI is a completely different type of car.
yeah, its a hatchback and designed by Germans

And less reliable and more expensive to repair - What are the advantages the VW has again?

I sure hope nissan won't increase the price of the infinity G35 next year to create a better price distribution of it's models

I do think it looks better in person, but only marginally. I live right by a Nissan dealership, so I've seen quite a few of them now, and some colors look better than others. But I just don't like the grille.

I think the reviewer is a little confused on the Skyview roof - he calls it "optional" in the article when it is standard even on the base model IIRC. And I don't understand his beef with the rear buckets either - it's not like that's something you *have* to get. Why harp on something that's optional, even if it is a gimmick?

Sure, it's a nice car (if a little homely), I just think there are some much more intriguing choices in that price range.

I saw it up close at the NY Auto show and the grill is butt ugly though slightly less in black. The back looks decent though. For the price you pay, you can get a G35 instead.

Reading a CNN Money review of a car is like Maxim or Playboy reviewing a stereo. That's not really what they do. But anyway...there are a lot of people out there who will buy a Maxima simply because it is a Maxima. :p

Fsckers should have built the new Maxima off the same platform as M45...RWD and V8 is all that can compete with the 240+HP Altima, Accord etc.

everyone is entitled to their own opinion... however i do think this guy is a bit harsh. Sounds like he was just looking for bad things to say.

Anyhow, i've driven one, and loved it. Torque steer is not nearly as bad as made out to be, the car drives great, is an unbelievebly smooth and comfortable ride, and very luxurious compared to the altima.

The car looks pretty sweet, however I can't justify paying $10k more for an "upgraded" car if it's based off the Altima. As it stands now I'll probably get an Altima as my next car unless the RS is imported over from Europe
