Dad: Hey, son, I need a printer. How good are HPs?
Me: They're mostly plastic and they fall apart pretty quickly. Buy a Xerox.
Dad: You're just saying that cause you work for them.
Me: Uh, ok, but if your Xerox printer breaks I can fix it for you.
Dad: Ehhh. (goes and buys an HP)

Today:

Dad: My HP printer won't work! And the warranty was only one year!
Me: BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Ahem. Told you so.

on a related note, my older brother tripped me into our big screen TV in the living room the day BEFORE the warranty is up!

course, that was years ago 😱

I've never had a HP printer that didn't last at least 4 years. Then again, if it breaks, I would figure out how to fix it myself.

Yeah same here! My dad still uses his pathetic Deskjet 550C.

My epson is still running pretty steadily for the last 4 years. Sure it's an antique now, but I still love it 🙂

This is a 5-in-1 machine. Which means there are 4 more things likely to die. 😉

I still have my DeskJet 600. POS, still working though. "fast" mode looks best, although the quality isn't so great these days. I want a laser printer.

Thats why he should have bought it at Staples with a product replacement plan. Not only does he get to keep the printer, he gets money to go buy another one. Even if it doesn't break completely, you still get your money back. Don't even have to send the old one back, so you can basically just tell them it broke.

how much more was the xerox than the hp? even rossman might have paid a 10% premium if his son could fix it if it ever broke

That makes more sense -- HP printers are great, especially the lasers (my 9-year old 4ML works perfectly and a friend's 4L finally died this year), but many of their multifunction units are craptastic.

i have an hp deskjet 540 that still runs. that things like 10 years old. its been mothballed for a few years, but still, it worked last time i dug it up in an emergency🙂 maybe i'll toss it into the car trunk as a laptop printer hehe.

We don't get discounts on anything except used products. And there wasn't any used equipment that would do what he wanted.

I think the comparable Xerox was 449, he paid 399 for the HP.
