I suppose that was one of those morally ambiguous choices that led to unintended consequences?
There were definitely a lot of moments where I needed to act under extreme time pressure where I really had no good choices, and not making a choice at all could have been worst of all. That's part of what made it so great...lots of those "Man, this is SO fucked up!" moments.
It really is a landmark game in terms of storytelling, even if I thought the mechanics were kinda janky at times and often poorly acted. Those moments were relatively rare though, overall it's a very unique and awesome experience, but I don't think it's for everybody. It's definitely not your everyday video game.
