No, its not. Entertainment is entertainment. You can use many analogies to compare. Never mind the fact, that you can replay the game as many times as you want. Ive replayed many games again, because they are so good.

You dont own the game, or a PS3. So uh... its of no relevance to you. In the end, its a matter of opinion. Your sig tells it all though, you're pretty confused. 😉

In contrast, its about the same ratio as going to a movie, hope none of you do that either.

6-8 hours sounds great to me, especially if its fun. Some of the best games have been short. You can beat SMB in less than 6 mins...

you can't seriously be making this comparison?

No, a short game is fine, but for $60? $15-20 would be more appropriate. I think that's about how much Second Sight was, and even then I got ten hours or so out of it.

Hope you dont go to any movies. Cause its about the same ratio for your money.

This analogy that you've posted twice now is faulty. If there's a movie coming out today that I want to see, I have no way of (legally) seeing it unless I spend $10 to go to the theater.

If I want to play Heavenly Sword, I can pay the full $60 or rent it for a very small fraction of the price. I haven't rented a game in forever, but they used to be about $5 for 3 days? 6-8 hours of gaming is easily accomplished within a weekend for most "hardcore" (I hate that term) gamers.

Even if you want to argue that you don't play 6-8 hours in a weekend. Hey, rent it two or three consecutive weekends in a row and pay $10-15. 6-8 hours for a single-player only game looks like a terrible value, especially next to Warhawk's apparently excellent longevity.

"Hope that people don't go to the movies"? No, I just hope that people are smart with their money.

im stupid with my money? damn i wish i was smarter with money, i wish i was a money genius like you.

Yes, the only interpretation of my last quote was that anyone who buys Heavenly Sword must be stupid. Go go straw man!

Being "smart with your money" works differently for different people. If you alloted enough money in your video game budget to outright buy both Heavenly Sword and Warhawk over the last few weeks, then go crazy.

If a 17 year old kid (because no one younger would ever play an M-rated game 😉) had a $60 budget for this month and was interested in both, would you tell him to buy HS or Warhawk? I'd advise buying Warhawk for $40 and renting HS for a weekend or two. You may disagree, but I think that's the ideal situation for gamers on a budget due to the longevity of the play experience of each.

I'm neither on a terribly strict budget nor an owner of a PS3, that's just how I'd approach it to save money, regardless.

Well theres 2 minutes of my life I can never get back. I wouldn't pay 1 cent for your opinion, and I just hope people are smarter than that.

Smart people know that you can trade in old games at many stores for credit and use that towards getting new games. Smart people like not having time limits, restrictions, waits, or hastles on my gaming.

😉

Yeah, its the same thing. You're in front of a screen, being entertained. Except with a game, you're actually doing something. You can pay $20 for a DVD, and watch a 2 hour or more long movie. Or you can buy a game and play 6 hours or more. Same ratio, about $10 per hour. Probably even more so in the games favor, as reviews say 6-8 hours, and a lot of movies no days arent even 2 hours. You can watch the movie as many times as you want, you can play the game as many times you want. And you can sell both used to recoup some of your money back.

So if you're complaining about paying $60 for a "6 hour" game, then I expect the same complains about a $20 2 hour DVD. Oops, that wont happen though, which is flip-flopping. And its obviously selling very well. I went to walmart, kmart, and two gamestops yesterday, all sold out. So it really doesnt matter if you think its a rental or not (which is a perfectly valid opinion) a lot of people are buying this game. And Im done talking about it.

I don't know why you guys are getting hostile. I haven't said a bad thing about you.

Whether you believe me or not, I'll just say that trading in games is rarely a wise financial decision. Look at these trade-in values. They give you 50% for games that have just been released. $20 for Warhawk, $30 for Lair, $30 for Madden, $30 for BioShock (which will end up winning many 360 GOTY awards)?

And you don't have to worry about paying me my 1 cent, this common sense is free. 😛

Now you're changing your story. The first two times you used your faulty analogy, you said:
"In contrast, its about the same ratio as going to a movie"
"Hope you dont go to any movies."

You were clearly talking about going out to the movie theater, which is a FAULTY analogy, which is why I called you on it and probably why you're "flip-flopping" now. The DVD comparison is distinctively more valid because there is the ability to re-watch the disc. However, you still have to factor in that the DVD can be rented for a small fraction of the price. I haven't paid $20 for a DVD in years.

Its strange how much stock people put into reviews. I have both games and they are not bad games by themselves. The penny arcade guys hit it on the nail when they said that perhaps people see these games moreso as a failure because theres been great expectations placed on them for some reason, perhaps unfairly. Having played these games myself and reading what others who only have read reviews have to say I can tell you that they are right.

so true.
I don't really hate either of the 6 games I currently own for the PS3, one of those I own is even Genji and I still find it playable. However, not a great game. Now, be that.. Full Auto 2 I have grown to hate for it's insane difficulty.

However, Lair and Heavenly Sword are both games I am glad I decided to buy. They are real enjoyable, both with great presentation which is something I admire in a game. Good presentation draws me in closer to the story, and speaking of story, the mix of emotions in HS is actually really great to me. I enjoy smirking or even laughing with Bohan talks, but that doesn't detract from the rest of the story, which I do truly believe is somewhat epic in scale. In my eyes, it's more epic than that of Halo, which everyone busts a nut over these days, at least it seems. That's another tried and true concept and that came together with pretty good production values. But that's another day, another time. HS, on the other hand, seems to know it's kind of a throwback to the old-school action romp, but it does so with such flair and perfection in its delivery, it's just short. However, it's definitely proving not to be some 6 hour game for me, but that's because I HATE flying through games to see how fast I can beat it. Why ruin good fun by being so haste, when you can truly enjoy it.

True, in fact I just watched a vid on gametrailers for mass effect, it has some character creation and then some storyline. While the characters faces, textures, models etc looked great, it had nothing in the way of realistic facial expressions. Kinda made me realize the kind of work they must have put into a game like HS. It adds to the emersion factor by quite a bit.

so... to get this back on topic....

I just got HS yesterday and have played through Chapters 1 and 2 (took me about 3 hours). Guess I am slower than the average gamer.

In any event all I have to say is WOW. While this is not at the level of GOW yet.... it is damn close.

The visuals are stunning as well as the storyline. I actually thought I wouldn't like the combat system based on the demo.... but it is actually pretty sweet....especially if you try and hit all of the combos. Same with the aftertouch system. I initially sucked at it... but the Siaxxis controls have grown on me and I actually like the variation in gameplay.

This has been my first PS3 game purchase and it has been well worth it so far.

I agree. Despite what the trolling posters with no clue in this thread have to say.

Im about as far as you. Two more chapters and Ill be done with the second level. Im fighting the fish chick right now. Im probably a little over two hours. Wish it kept track of the time.

The animations are very well done, the voice acting is great, the gameplay is superb, and the story is good as well. I like using the sixaxis to control arrows and such, and I find it easy to do so. I also find it easy in Lair as well though.

Overall, very good game.

yep

God of War seems to be one of the best games released anywhere in the last 5 years, and yet no one complains about its short (5 or less hour) duration.

Yes, but not for $60.

You can beat SMB in less than 6 mins...

Not when it came out and we were 9, we couldn't.

Why not for $60? Ive already gone over this, there are far more things that most of us do for entertainment that are the same, or even have a worse ratio for money/time. A day at disney land costs more, a show costs more, etc. Case in point, I spent $365 for two tickets for Hannah Montana for my wife and girl. How long do you think thats going to last? You can name off so many more things. Its about if the game is fun or not. Complaing about it, and doing other things that have the same or worse time/money ratio is hypocritical.

Sure some may think its only worth a rental, and thats fine and dandy. Obviously some should have rented it. I went to gamestop over the weekend, there was already a used copy two days after it came out. Guess they beat it, and sold it back. Or they let them return it for some reason, which I doubt.

And as has been shown, several games recently have had about 6-8 hours gameplay, and are still considered great. Some even among the best of all time. God of War being one of them. Ive got both 1&2, short, but great games. I didnt even consider complaining about the length of the games.

And I wasnt 9 when SMB came out.. Im a little older than that. About 9 when I got my Atari. And I certainly beat SMB in less than 6-8 hours too. Yet didnt go complaining about the length.. I would have had to written letters at that time, no internet. 😉

I rented it today and just played for a couple of hours. Pretty fun game. I love the button smashing hack n' slash where I actually feel like I'm using some skill. I also enjoy using the six axis to control aftertouch. There's nothing more satisfying than a headshot from 300 yards away.

With that said, everyone in Console Gaming needs to chill the hell out. You guys all get so damn worked up.

Yet another bump to an old PS3 thread since I just got mine 😀. Heavenly Sword is my first game, and so far I'm loving it. Everything is fantastic. The controls are great, the sixaxis motion is smoother to handle that I thought it would be, the graphics are outstanding, the facial and body animations are the best I've ever seen, and the voice work is some of the best work in modern gaming. Hell, I guess my ONLY complaint right now is that the button-press sequences are a little too tight. I had to fight the guy with the blades on his back 3 times before I got the button sequence down. It's silly that they give the boss basically all of their health back when you fail the button presses.

yeah i had the same problem throughout the entire game, its not very friendly for us slow people. the jericho demo is even worse 🙁. fortunately the sequences dont change so you can eventually remember the buttons, if it were random i probably wouldnt have finished the game lol.

Damn, this game has some truly funny lines and scenes. The guy tapping his fingers on his cod piece while he was thinking was absolutely hilarious to me 😀. And Kai has to be one of the most endearing characters in a video game in quite some time. I guess I've put about 4 hours into the thing thus far, and I'm at the beginning of Chapter 4 (I'm guessing there is 5 chapters?).

I'll admit, I'm one who talked bad about this game's length before I had even played it, but I'm thinking the ~6 hour playtime is probably pretty perfect for a game like this. I can't imagine playing this for 15 hours, there's just not enough variety. Probably not worth $60, but I'd easily pay $40 for it.
