Heat index

94 degrees with a heat index of 103 (51% humidity), right now. Haven't been able to find a calculation for the apparent temp if there is wind. The wind chill charts stop at 50 degrees. Ideas?

Combines heat index and wind chill depending on forecast temperatures.
Wind Chill Is the cooling effect of wind on exposed skin.

The formula to compute Wind Chill:
Wind chill temperature = 35.74 + 0.6215T - 35.75V (**0.16) + 0.4275TV(**0.16)

Where V is the wind speed in statute miles per hour
T is the temperature in degrees Fahrenheit.

Heat Index combines the effects of heat and humidity. When heat and humidity combine to reduce the amount of evaporation of sweat from the body, outdoor exercise becomes dangerous even for those in good shape.

The formula to calculate Heat Index is
(1) Heat index(HI), or apparent temperature(AI) = -42.379 + 2.04901523(Tf) + 10.14333127(RH) - 0.22475541(Tf)(RH) -6.83783x10**(-3)*(Tf**(2)) - 5.481717x10**(-2)*(RH**(2)) + 1.22874x10**(-3)*(Tf**(2))*(RH) + 8.5282x10**(-4)*(Tf)*(RH**(2)) -1.99x10**(-6)*(Tf**(2))*(RH**(2))

Where Tf = air temperature in degrees Fahrenheit,
RH= relative humidity expressed as a whole number.

Subjectively, wind doesn't seem to make much difference when it's warm, and humidity's high.

That kind of sucks. My general rule for biking is under 98 degrees but I've never paid attention to the heat index so I have no idea what it may have been in years past. S.C. high, I'm sure. I'm getting 6 days of cardio in per week so I'm not concerned about my fitness but my ability to cool down as I get older (54 y.o.).

Keep an eye on air quality too. We have some pretty bad days for that. Might not be as bad where you are.

64 here.

I carry and drink plenty of water so I'll go for a short ride and see. My Mom's house is on the loop twice so I have a place to stop if need be.
How far do you usually go? I've gotten a couple bikes as an adult, but I'm just not into it like I was as a kid. I used to go all over the place on a single speed bmx bike. The bikes got more complicated and less fun as I got older :^(

Just shy of an hour. There are days that I wonder WTF I'm doing, slogging up some hill but I find myself doing it again a couple of days later. Insanity? Probably.

My MTB is a 22" frame. You'd probably have to special order with your height.

Today is a pretty awesome day. Hot enough for shorts but not so hot that it's miserable.

I had an appointment in the middle of the day so it kinda broke my day though. I should go finish my shed siding that I started yesterday. Was super hot yesterday so was working pretty slowly.

Super hot? What's that?

It was a beautiful 35c on monday here in the sw

i live in houston. i've lived in either austin or houston since 1983. the only heat i've known for the last 35 years is humid heat, so i can safely say that heat indexes are useless to me. 95 and humid feels like 95, because that's the only 95 i've ever known. sometimes there's a break in the humidity and it'll feel pleasant and i'll think 'wow it's really nice out here it must be in the mid 80s.' nope, still 95, but low humidity. i need a reverse heat index.

heat index is always quite understated IMO.

When its 68 degrees and humidity is at 98% so dew point is around 67, it feels like its 90.
When its 90 and dew point is like 80 so humidity is around 80%, it feels hotter than 110 in Las Vegas.

I think your solution is to move to a less hostile environment, perhaps the mountains.

I can't move my house. I know, I know, I shouldn't have taken the wheels off

go high or go home

I can offer you more of my all natural, very sustainable, and organic drink full of protein and a few necessary vitamins. You do have to work a bit for it but it sounds like you need the benefits now more than ever! You didn't have any problems extracting it the last few times.

And I didn't even give you a reach around. Just bent you over the thimble. Damn, I'm good.
