Had never seen Ragnaros until last night, then lost three different games to it lol. The first two I would have won, the third I probably lost even without it. The second time I saw it I actually silenced it thinking that would help but it wasn't until after the fact I realized that just meant it could attack now. It sounded good in my head at least lol.

I wish there was a "No Legendary" league. I don't want to play against cards like that but if I had one I wouldn't want to use it either. It's a boring way to play to me.

Then played the same mage twice in a row and lost both times as I went from 20 odd health to zero after two turns of frostbolt/fireball and/or pyroblast. Prior to that I got hit with enough cone of colds, frost novas, blizzards, flamestrikes and polymorphs to really prevent me putting any real pressure on him either. Ugly.

Burn mage. Those are super annoying and probably the easiest to build and play (hence why they are so popular). And yeah, Rag is like the second legendary you should craft for constructed (the first being Sylvannas, as it is good for every deck).

Those types of mages are the reason why I think Pyroblast should be a legendary. It is just too easy to have 2 and 20 damage. If you're playing Alexstrassa, that is one card and then instant death next turn. =(

fixed the arena bug and super minor mage nerfs

In this Hearthstone patch, we fixed an issue where players were unable to re-enter the Arena if the client was closed before they claimed their Arena rewards. While we’re patching, we’ve also decided to take this opportunity to make a couple changes to certain cards that utilize the Freeze mechanic. Check out the detailed patch notes below!

General

Certain Expert cards have been changed and the amount of dust that you get from disenchanting these cards have been temporarily increased such that it is equal to the amount of dust that it would have originally cost to craft those cards. Affected cards are:
Blizzard
Cone of Cold
Mage

We understand that the Freeze mechanic can be frustrating to play against, and we wanted to make changes that would allow the Mage’s opponent some additional time to be aggressive with their minions and well as slow the overall pacing of the control-based Mage play style.
Blizzard’s mana cost is now 6 (up from 5).
Cone of Cold’s mana cost is now 4 (up from 3).
Frost Nova’s mana cost is now 3 (up from 2).
Bug Fixes

Resolved an issue where certain account states could prevent new Arena runs from being started. Previously impacted accounts should now be able to properly start new Arena runs.

I'd say that's more than "super minor" and I think does help address them having such strong AoE control early in the game which will hopefully 'trickle down' nicely. It not only affects how early they can play them but also how easily they can be played while laying spell damage minions on the same turn which I've felt is pretty significant.

If you had a series of cards you. Were going to play on turn 2, 3, and s for example, all this does is mean you will be playing them on turn 3, 4, and 5. In general this doesn't seem to have much of an effect to me. And if you can manage to have one of the spell cost reduction minions out, this would really not matter much.

Couple of updates, earlier in the week they sent out beta invites to everyone that had opted in.

Open beta delayed till beginning on next year, sounds like too many bugs from the latest patch to fix before going open.

I hope my friends made sure to opt-in lol, Blizzard's "check this box to be eligible for beta. you're done!" is almost deceptively simple. I'd like to have more of them around to play with. Even if playing with them doesn't actually 'get' me anything currently lol.

Finally had a decent run in arena, went 5-3. I think my first couple attempts were too spell heavy and had too many 1-4 cost cards and not enough 5+ to keep up later in the match.

Can't argue with that opinion, but in arena it is so much about what the guy you're playing happened to draw.

Yeah, sometimes you just can't beat the draw. Last night I was in a Play match against a hunter, he had me low but started off really aggressively and was down to a single card in his hand and no minions while I had a pretty full complement of them on the board as well as like 4 cards in hand.

Lo and behold the one card he has in his hand is a Starving Buzzard and his draw is Unleash the Hounds which summons 5 wolves and pulls 5 cards because of the buzzard. Then one of the 5 he draws is his Timber Wolf to give +1 attack to all the Wolves which have charge. Finishes me off lol.

I am curious how the draft cards are selected for Arena. Like if it's completely random or if there are some sort of pre-defined 'paths' available or if your card selection somehow alters the cards that become available in later picks, etc.

I've had starts that were absolutely perfect against me, and it is infuriating. Like, there is no better order of draws and I lose turn 5. Wtf?

But, that is the nature of trading card games.

I remember reading a guy complaining that the pally he was playing in arena used 4 truesilver champions.

As far as arena cards, they've said that the 3 to chose are stacked on an infinite pile and the top set on the pile drawn each time the next person in the arena deck creation queue needs one. Since some of the card sets would be class specific, not sure if those sets are just labeled as class specific to be filled with your class or if it is actually several infinite stacks to be drawn from, each labeled by class.

Son of a bitch. I was like 5-2 in arena and come up against a guy with a deck that had Ragnaros, Tirion, and Onyxia in it - even then I very nearly won. That's the thing I think they could improve upon with arena building, I get that they probably want it to just be random but I feel like it would be a much better experience with some sort of deck 'rules' in place - like maybe give every deck 1 legendary selection, 4 epics, 8 rares and 17 common/basic or something like that. He had as many legendaries in one arena deck as I've had in all 6-7 of mine lol.

Absolutely unreal. Exact same thing in Arena happened except this time the guy had at least Cairne and Lady Sylvanas, the latter of course changed the entire game when he took control of my one powered up Flesheating Ghoul when I otherwise would have won in the next turn. Seriously, wtb no-legendary league. They're just un-fun.

Man I really want to try this. How hard is it to get a beta key right now?

I "signed up " couple weeks ago but i never have luck with closed betas.

bah, almost had an epic arena run. Got a pally with 4 truesilvers, went 5-1 with minimal difficulty and was thinking a 9 or 12 was possible...then ended at 7-3, first lost was absolutely dreadful deck stacking, with 10 cards left I still hadn't drawn a single sword. Second was a guy popping multiple legendaries.

Blizz stated if you sign up by 1/7 you're guaranteed entry before the public beta.

Dunno how real this is...
I read that those who opted in before decembre 18h 2013 were garanteed a key. I checked the box for beta in september and never got a key.

Now they state to give one for those before jan. 1st? yeah right...

I rellay don't know how they work and choose the testers...

I think everyone who opted in before the opt-in was removed should have an invite, though there have been a cutoff in there somewhere.

3/3 of my friends complaining about not getting an invite actually all got in [early as October] and don't know how to use GMail.

One of them got Ragnaros in arena last night, shocker he went to 10 wins lol. I really wish arena was 'smart' instead of random. Having up to 3-4 of the same card in a deck is another thing I'd rather see restricted.

I don't mind the having 3-4 of the same card so much as I mind having 0 legendaries and getting matched up against people with multiples. =( Like wtf?

But, that is the nature of drafts. Sometimes you get good cards; sometimes you get utter crap and everyone else gets good cards.

If you aren't in yet and you already opted in, there was probably an error with their beta opt in procedure. That's what happened with mine. I had opted in months ago, but never got an invite. I heard about the error, opted out, then opted in again, and I got a beta invite later that day. This was in December.

I remember in november, after some kind of update or I don't know what, all my opt-ins were unchecked. I rechecked the ones I wanted as soon as i've seen this.

Maybe that's the problem...

Had my first arena 0-3 this weekend since the very first one I ever played. Took a pally and had an absolute awful draw. It was like there were 8 guys selecting from 10 cards each time, and I was always getting the 8th pick.

I absolutely hate arena... My drafts are absolutely horrific 3 times out of 4. Then I draw well two games out of six, and somehow manage to scrape a 3-3...

I really don't know how the streamers do it. I've watched them make mistakes that I would never make, and some of them can't even count. But they seem to go at least 5-3 every time with little to no issue...
