50.5% in the house means this bill is dead-on-arrival in the Senate.

Meh, they just have to vote to close debate and it is a guaranteed thing.

Closing debate isn't voting in favor, so even if they aren't in favor a few will probably close the debate.

I would love to see a single payer system passed just to piss off those on the right that are shouting doom and gloom.

this is better than nothing.

All the Democrats will do is throw those members districts a new bridge to get the votes.

Again, where in the constitution does it authorize congress the power to create a government run health care system?

Right next to the line that says it is okay to spy on our citizens as long as some foreigners ram jets into buildings.

Some of us didn't like the idea of communist China.

Capitalist China would be more accurate.

They are in fact one of the few countries who chose to try the market based health care system, they found it to be horribly costly and not able to cover everyone properly so they are in the process of implementing a UHC that covers everyone in the nation.

Hah, what a ridiculous example to pick! :D

Filthy poverty and abuse of human rights is a ridiculous example? You might like the idea, as I said only some of us oppose it.

Thanks Democrats! You passed legislation that will mostly help poor red state voters that hate your guts, while being paid for mostly by blue state constituents in high cost-of-living areas.

Nice way to not actually read the post which proved how ignorant your example is. ;)

Classic repuglican tactics.

What can be said other than some people in this nation care about other humans.

The greatest trick republicans ever pulled was convincing the lower 20% to support welfare for the top .01% by convincing them that Gay Satan ran the welfare office and was handing out free abortions and crack.

Oh look, Medicare for people under 65. What a radical, never before tested idea that will overhaul our entire health care system. :D

Good thing for that. I can tell how much you care about other humans after seeing what a great job you've done so far with your inner city poor. I'm happy to know that you've upped your level of caring another notch still. Your courage in passing this bill means there's one less blue state problem I need to concern myself with, since you're taking care of this one.

Your analysis could not be any more off. It's a virtual lock that every Republican senator (including the Maine RINOs) will vote to filibuster. Add in Lieberman, who has already promised to filibuster any bill with a public option, and this thing's still a long way from passing the Senate.

Lieberman comes from CT with a strong base of Public Option supporters. He's been around for a while but he is not immune to constiuent pull. He is also under tremendous pressure to vote against a filibuster. He is suspected to have bluffed in earlier statements to encourage removal of the public option.

Maine LOVES the public option idea, so I wouldn't put it past them to vote against a fillibuster. This could happen pretty easily.

In congress it's not a situation where you throw it up to a vote and see what the results are when everyone has cast their vote - the end result is known before-hand. A vote to close debate, but against the bill, is something any common person recognizes for what it is.

Any Republican voting for closing debate will lose their job on their next election cycle. So what's their motivation for closing debate?

Me thinks you're still under the false impression that the Republican opposition is a baseless manufactured opposition designed to appease idiots.

Right, because Maine knows just how effective Dirigo Health was in reducing health care costs and bringing in more uninsured into the system.

Well a few of the foreigners on the board have weighed in. Those that don't live in the U.S. but love meddling in our politics at whatever level they can. There will be more later when they wake up. The Canadian coalition will be weighing in soon. Most of them don't identify themselves as not being U.S. citizens either.

The 47% of those living here that pay no federal income tax are on board in full force. What the hell, they don't think they're going to be paying for it anyway, so it sure sounds great to them. Hmm, might be a surprise down the road though. (Hint: the rich folks are going to run out of money)

Those that blindly wanted the legislation with little or no concern for how it's been crafted, what it affects and how it's paid for are of course behind it 100%. Those that blindly tow the party line fully support it also. Those that are incapable of independent thought and want whatever their leaders say is good for them are on board too. The government is smarter than myself kind of thinking.

Step one is complete. A 2000 page monstrosity of a bill that covers thousands of things completely unrelated to our nations health care (Loan guarantees for Veterinarians comes to mind) and health care. A bill estimated to raise the out of pocket expense for health care for a family of four to in excess of $25,000 by 2019. Meanwhile the joblessness continues.

Our leader said he would "Fundamentally transform the United States of America". Well, he certainly is doing that.

Make certain it's really what you want. The road back will take people with far more guts and courage than few of us have.
