Yeah that's what I'll probably do. Costco sells delicious sugar laced Quaker instant oatmel, yummy.

if you want cheap, then buy bulk oatmeal (i get 20lbs. or more at a health food store).
you have to add flavoring (if that's important to you).

Here's my breakfast:
Bowl of Total - the healthiest cereal there is PERIOD! (has so much iron you can pull a flake around in the milk with a magnet)
Glass of OJ fortified with calcium - gives you 30% more calcium in your diet which you probably need
1 banana
Takes 10 minutes to eat at a slow pace and sitting down.

As for the milk, I drink 1% because skim tastes like water. In reality, you are probably only doing yourself a slight health favor by drinking skim. 1 or 2% isn't that bad for you, stay away from the whole milk or goat's milk though. Soy is good for you too but too $$.

Well, that, and we have free coffee at work so I'm always frickin' jittery by noon ;)
Isn't granola pretty fattening? Or do you buy the low fat stuff?

BTW...yogurt is really good for you - low in fat, lots of protein, calcium, potassium, and many other goodies :)

You said HEALTHY.

Buy the stuff that lists nothing but rolled oats on the ingredients list.

Healthy cereals include Special K with strawberries, Basic 4, Cheerios, and Total Rasin Bran. I also eat oatmeal and bagels occasionally. I use 2% milk, been drinking it since childhood and it tastes fine to me.

EGGS!

Why don't people realize that eggs have among the higest biological values of any food out there, and even a few yolks aren't going to kill you. Two whole eggs + 8 egg whites + 100% rolled oat oatmeal is the single best breakfast.

Cereal, you're just getting worthless carbs and sugars. With eggs you're getting fats and proteins (GOOD) and you get good, slow-burning carbs from the oatmeal.

So, if you plan on eating healthy for breakfast, does this mean the RossMAN special is on hold for a while?

Much tastier (and cheaper, and chemical-free):
- cannister of Quaker plain "quick 1 minute" oats
- bag of walnuts or pecans, keep in fridge
- bottle of real maple syrup

Take a microwave-safe bowl, put in 1/2 cup of oats, 1 cup of (water & milk, mix to taste), crumble in a handfull of the nuts. put bowl in microwave, cover (paper plate works well), cook 1.5 - 2 minutes.

Stir, pour on a small amount of maple syrup, enjoy.

I agree.

What's the easiest, quickest, cleanest way to cook eggs?

Boil?

Microwave?

Between the oatmeal and egg questions, something tells me you don't do too much cooking, eh RossMAN? :)

Anymore I just tend to eat a powerbar for breakfast.

Cheap (about $3.96 for a 4-pack @ WalMart) and easy to eat on the run.

The only issue I have is that some days I have to eat 2 because I get hungry before lunch break. :(

Not all cerals are filled with sugar and carbs. Whole wheat cereals low on sugar and sucrose additives are very healthy. Plus many cereals are supplemented by vitamins. I have read the box of every cereal box I have bought in the last few years and there are some good buys out there, if you pay attention.

As far as eggs go, I love them. But my doctor warned me that they are full of fats and cholesterol and can be harmful if you eat them everyday. From the American Heart Association:

Eggs are rich in protein, B vitamins, iron, and other minerals. These are all essential for good health. But egg yolks are also high in cholesterol, which contributes to high blood cholesterol levels. High blood cholesterol is a major risk factor for coronary heart disease and stroke because it leads to fatty buildups in artery walls.

For a while I was doing carnation instant breakfasts, now I'm on to cereal though.

Never ever skip breakfast. Breakfast good!

stay off the carbs, because you'll be seriously hungry when your insulin level bottoms out. Try 6 egg whites in a small non-stick pan, cook until hard (low), add some cheese and your golden. No carbs, no sugar, plenty of protein and you won't be starving at 10:00am.
