Health nuts: What's a healthy, cheap, quick & easy breakfast?

My current breakfast consists of a nice 16 ounce Double Tall Macadamian Nut Latte which is great BUT around 11:00 PM I get a little light headed, feeling dizzy and HUNGRY.

So what's a good cheap, healthy, quick & ghetto breakfast you'd guys recommend?

All I can think of is cold cereal, orange juice and 1 whole banana?

Is there really that much of a difference between 2%, 1% and skim (non-fat) milk?

What brands of cereal taste good, are healthy and can be found on sale at the local supermarket?
 
I like blueberry morning, granola, raisin bran, stuff like that.

Bagels make a good hot breakfast if you like a change of pace from cereal. Oatmeal does too.
 
i usually eat a whole wheat pbj, an apple and 2 granola bars... lasts me until lunchtime (from 730 until 11 or so)

My favorite breakfast usually consists of the following :

1 bowl of some sugar-coated cereal
1 glass of OJ or apple juice


A HEALTHY breakfast on the other hand would probably be something like :
Grapefruit with a small cup of coffee.
OR
Some nutritious cereal (like Total) and a glass of juice/milk

Sounds good to me.

Yeah we have a ton of granola bars we bought from Costco. Should probably eat them soon before they spoil (assuming they haven't already).

How difficult/messy is it to cook hot oatmeal? I'm not talking about microwaveable Wilford Brimley "because it's the tasty and right thing to do" Quaker flavored oatmeal, but the kind of oatmeal you get from a canister.
 
honey nut cheerios are always good, i like frosted cheerios too... not the healthiest, but oh wellz... sometimes, for cheap (kinda) and easy, i'll grab a high protein meal replacement bar on my way out the door... that works too

Ghetto breakfast - cold pop tart
Healthy - Wheaties, 1% or skim milk, fruit
Cheap - Industrial fruit loops from the back of your grocer
Easy - Granola bars, pop tarts, anything in individual packaging.

Anyway, I always go for the bowl of cereal... usually wheaties, cheerios or something similiar. Not sugary. Fruit (banana, orange, apple, etc) Usually toast, 1 pop tart or english muffin etc, orange juice (unless I am eating an orange or grapefruit for breakfast), and 1% milk.

Never hungry by lunch. In fact, I may need to cut back some so that I am hungry.

the nature valley ones? oats 'n honey, rite? i go through a box of those in a week and a half... those things are great, it's like pure energy, and you get oats and fiber from it... prob'ly hit like 3 or 4 a day

edit: oh, and oatmeal is easy, doens't take too long, my roomate has it allthe time
 
Many cereals have lots of sugar, and even the ones that don't typically have a fair amount of carbs. I usually buy cereal with a coupon so I just find one that's pseudo-healthy and that I like (or at least sounds like it would taste decent) - right now it's Corn Chex, which isn't bad.

Oatmeal's easy to cook. Boil water, add oats. Add butter, salt, cinnamon, whatever seasoning you like to taste. For complete directions, see the package for details. 🙂

LOL Great post as usual. I think I'll go with your latter suggestion, bowl of (non-sugary) cereal in either 1% or skim milk.

Dumb question, do healthy pop tarts exist? Like Pop Tart lites or low fat, low sugar, etc.?
 
Oatmeal & fruit is what I eat when I have time, usually I barely make it out the door in time & breakfast is vending machine food.

What about pouring dry oats into bowl then pouring hot boiling water into the bowl or am I just plain lazy?

Nope. 🙂

BUT if you add the oats to the boiling water it gets hard, crusted, caked on, etc.
You're either adding too many oats or cooking it too long.
 
Put oatmeal in a bowl.
Add enough water or milk to cover it .
Heat it until it looks like oatmeal.
Add more water/milk until it's the consistency you like.

pop tarts themselves aren't that unhealthy, it's just that if that's all you eat, you're going to get a sugar spike in your blood... won't last you too long... i find that if i eat a little bit of somethign with a little fat, it makes my meal last longer... i read in an article that eating just carbs in the morning will spike your blood sugar, and you'll be hungry in an hour... so i tried eating 3 bowls of cheerios once, with skim milk in the morning, i was hungry after my 1st class. that's why i love them pbj's
 
Skim milk (less than 1%) all the way, granola ROCKS for energy and for being balanced nutritionally. I usually try to have granola, a yogurt, and a bananna or apple. 🙂

Well, that, and we have free coffee at work so I'm always frickin' jittery by noon 😉

Yeah that's what I'll probably do. Costco sells delicious sugar laced Quaker instant oatmel, yummy.
 
Quick- banana, cooked short grain "organic" brown rice, and soy milk mixed in a blender. Has everything a growing boy needs🙂

 
I just wake up in time for lunch to solve the problem of breakfast. Besides, the classic breakfast foods like eggs, bacon, sausage, they are pretty bad for you anyways.
 
ooohh... forgot a good one... but it's not quick... when i have time, sometimes i'll make like a 6 eggs scrambled (whites only, mind you), cut up some roast turkey (like sandwich meat kind), some green onions, and a little grated cheese... put it in a warm tortilla with a lil' bit of ketchup.....
