Anyone know if any, most or all HD-DVDs are using copy protection yet?

My TVs don't have HDMI.

Not yet. It won't happen for a few years down the road.

So progressive out will give me 1080i on all available HD-DVDs?

You mean component out?

Oops, yeah. Don't know what I was thinking.

So component out will give me 1080i on all available HD-DVDs?

Don't ask me, I don't have one :p

Anyway, my local Target actually has a good selection of both formats. But I'm not a big fan of DRM and I want this war to end before investing in a new player and television. I guess I'll wait.

(Also heard some of the conversations people were having at the Blu/HD racks. Am amazed at how totally ignorant most people are of the formats and multimedia in general. I expect it from the older generations, but most of the teens seem clueless as well.)

what did they say?

Well, I have a 360 and got the HD-DVD drive for about $170 after tax and $40 off $199 Circuit City coupon. 360 was a sunk cost for me because I had no idea they were even considering the HD drive prior to making the purchase. :p

I found it on FW if I remember correctly. You have to print it and you may have trouble getting them to take it though most seem to have no trouble at all. I read you can get an original from the post office in one of those change of address/moving packets but I never verified that myself.

IMO, they still don't. They are the only company I know of that artificially inflates demand for videos by producing them for a limited time every 5 years or by failing to even create a DVD of a movie for 20 years.

huh? this is more like a beta vs. vhs war
When dvd first came out many studios (Paramount, Disney, a few others) only put their titles on the DIVX format. Similar situation with Blu-Ray vs. HD DVD.

DVD VS. DIVX
no it's not exactly the same. DivX sucks in comparison. Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are very very similar in the features they offer. HD-DVD has the price advantage and Blu-Ray has the storage advantage.

It has been a long time since I bought my first DVD player. I forgot how hard it was to find media for it and now I'm reliving that nightmare. Went around town looking for Superman Returns HD-DVD to no avail. Did find a Blu-Ray copy at Target and they told me for some reason their HD-DVD shipment wouldn't make it until tomorrow.

Blah, end format war now please. Thanks.

you could have just not bought into it.

Hell, I could have avoided color television too!

Somebody has to buy into it or else the war would never end.
