It has been a long time since I bought my first DVD player. I forgot how hard it was to find media for it and now I'm reliving that nightmare. Went around town looking for Superman Returns HD-DVD to no avail. Did find a Blu-Ray copy at Target and they told me for some reason their HD-DVD shipment wouldn't make it until tomorrow.

Blah, end format war now please. Thanks.

I agree. BTW, does anyone have hands on experience with both Blockbuster/Netflix online HD-DVD rentals? Just wondering which has the better selection and which seems to be best at having copies available. I've used both before for DVD rentals so I already know that both services have downsides.

Order through Amazon. If you order 3 at the same time, they'll give you 10% off your HD-DVD purchases for a year.

Both players will give you the same exact result from an HD-DVD though, 1080p (granted you have it hooked up to a modern day HDTV).

Anyone know if any, most or all HD-DVDs are using copy protection yet?

My TVs don't have HDMI.

Not yet. It won't happen for a few years down the road.

some how i think this war will drag out longer than DivX DVD war

huh? this is more like a beta vs. vhs war
When dvd first came out many studios (Paramount, Disney, a few others) only put their titles on the DIVX format. Similar situation with Blu-Ray vs. HD DVD.

DVD VS. DIVX

Heck, Disney didnt even like the idea of home video at first. They thought it would kill their theater income.

Anyway, my local Target actually has a good selection of both formats. But I'm not a big fan of DRM and I want this war to end before investing in a new player and television. I guess I'll wait.

(Also heard some of the conversations people were having at the Blu/HD racks. Am amazed at how totally ignorant most people are of the formats and multimedia in general. I expect it from the older generations, but most of the teens seem clueless as well.)
