If it isn't posted, then I think it's pretty much unknown.

My advice would be to pick up Apocalypto and...uh, whatever else. It's probably the best transfer of those available. (1.85:1, digitally shot, sound is amazing...)

saw that movie and did not like it.

I don't buy movies to show off, I buy movies I enjoy watching. The High Definition is a bonus for me.

I actually like it, which is why I bought it. I also don't buy them just to show off. when BB was doing the same titles at BOGO, I picked up PoTC 2 to complement my "simpletons" movie titles... wasn't anything else to choose from, and I'd figure that would be good enough for anyone to see, and for a mindless adventure flick.

...but, my god is that a terrible flick. pretty much unwatchable :)

Actually PotC is much better to me than Apocalypto...it's a matter of opinion of course

It's official HD has ruined me. I just did a side by side with bourne(identity) on DVD vs HDDVD. I cannot watch DVD's anymore ;)

Just for kicks I set up a still comparison between composite SD, component SD, and HDMI HD....each step is so rediculously obvious...its sad that most people but HDTV's and still connect via composite.

Yeah, it's interesting how the link from Venturer's website to Walmart's website... doesn't actually show the product on the site...

Nobody's buying a Venturer if the HD-A2 is $199, $99 on sale.

it's Dead Man's Chest I'm referring to, and it's been roundly rejected by tons of people, even those who loved the first one--not just me this time. :) I didn't mind the first one so much, but I'm not a fan like many are. yeah, it is indeed an issue of taste. I also wouldn't touch the BD of PoTC 1 until they fix the framing issues...which may never happen.

I really enjoy reading or watching documentaries about ancient civilization, and Apocalypto is a pretty close interpretation of Mayan civilization imo. as crazy as he is, Mel can make some pretty damn good flicks. ...if you can handle the gore...

*ridiculous :)

I compared some shots from corpse bride (My only HD DVD at this point) through component and HDMI the other day, and the colors aren't even close. I never realized it was that huge a difference...

but, if you think you really can't handle DVD, try watching LoTR, especially Two Towers, upconverted. I threw up a little after watching that the other night. I had no idea why people were complaining about those DVD transfers being completely horrible. ...now I know what they mean.

My EEs are no longer watchable for me :(

Framing issue that you don't see unless you stop it on the exact frame...didn't you mention this before and someone used this same argument against you?

Again I do not critique every disk and find only the ultimate showpieces...I buy movies I enjoy and I happen to enjoy PotC regardless of what "tons of people" think.

Anyway, I found what I was looking for by reading the hidefdigest reviews.

We get it, you don't like Pirates of the Caribbean. You talk it up every time the movie is mentioned...

As for myself too, I'd much rather watch the travesty of a botched up crap transfer that Curse of the Black Pearl is, than watch Apocalypto again.

I think everyone can have their opinion, but pointing out things that the usual viewer never sees is a real stretch argument.

Everyone can have their opinion, but just say it and be done with it. Especially don't come off as an elitist jerk saying only "simpletons", or stupid people if you will, enjoy the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

I wasn't actually trying to say component is always worse than HDMI I was moreso comparing component to the composite...then them both to HD(it just happened to be connected via HDMI). I am sure with more calibration I could get the colors via Component to look just as good as HDMI.

whoa tough crowd ;)

I have plenty of stupid movies that I like to watch--that's why I have them. Sure, I prefer to own movies that I consider worth owning, but grab a few here and there that I know a wider audience can enjoy--of course, I have to be able to enjoy it as well. if I'm calling people simpletons for watching movies that I own, wouldn't I be calling myself one? ;)

PoTC 2 was a blind buy, and sure, I was disappointed. I didn't mind the first one so much, but couldn't see myself picking it up (it was only one of those two that I considered as a 2nd disc in that BOGO).

...and isn't it 22 seconds that is mis-framed in the first one? 22 seconds can be some pretty significant movie time, depending on the scene. that can be ~1/2 a page in the screenplay or even up to 2 pages (depending). maybe I'll rent it. but again...it shouldn't have happened. I don't know why people have no problem accepting these mistakes. I bet the director sure as shit cares about this....

Wal*Mart is supposedly having a sale on the 80gb PS3 this Saturday & Sunday, where you buy it for $499, and get 10 free Blu-ray movies *in store* for free (any $30 or less), then you can also send out for the 5 more free movies. No links, the ad is supposedly to be out on Wednesday. Just throwing it out there in case I forget to check up on it later this week.

Dammit! I was looking forward to watching those on my A2. :| So how long before New Line releases them in HD? Do we have to wait until one format "wins"?

Picked up Bourne Identity, Transformers, and Happy Feet with CCs buy two get one free deal today. Will give me something to watch over the long weekend. Watched Serenity the other day and it ROCKED! :D

Lots of new firmware updates for the BD players the past couple days, I'm assuming to help play the new crop of movies out today, including the Die Hard set! How're these for simpleton movies? Yippie-kay-aye! Although I've read it's been sold out most places. :( Yet my Best Buy has literally over 100 copies of Spider-man 3 on shelves...

Hrm...that's not bad, but the wal-marts near me don't even have a selection big enough to accomidate 10 choices :D
