For what ever reason this show makes me really miss Deadwood.

Am loving the slow pace, eerie atmosphere and locations (every location has a sense of dread wrapped around it, like something bad could happen at any moment), great characters and their dialogue.

Told the wife I could care less who the killer is, the journey through this story is the point of the show.

I will watch the whole series, but boy was that second episode plodding. They are certainly taking their time for an 8-episode run. That would be fine, but it does reinforce the overwrought nature of the dialogue. So far my verdict is "not great but I'm glad they made it."

Wow! Boobs. I made the very careful decision to not watch the episode with my wife, just because of the D'addario scene.

I love the show. I love the character development and the slow reveal is fine. My only worry about the pace is what I have encountered in too many books - where the plot is just a necessary device for the character development - so much so that the resolution is rushed and hugely anticlimatic - an afterthought by the writer. Have been let down recently by some books that were that way - fantastic buildup & character development then a flat "guess we have to end this somehow". I want the character development and the big payoff please. Asking too much?

I forgot to say - am I crazy, or are Woody Harrelson's sunglasses definitely not period (mid 90s)?

I dunno why this bothers me so bad, but he wears them in a lot of scenes, and I feel like the continuity director is not doing his/her job.

I have seen plenty of sunglasses of similar style in the 90s. RayBan had a few I know of off hand and Oakley seems to have always had that similar style.

I am a bit confused why you wouldn't watch that D'addario scene with your wife. Is she against you, even casually, seeing any other boobs? I'd hate to have her watch Game of Thrones with you. =(

Another great episode. Agree about the amazing writing.

After seeing the preview for next week, looks like they are amping up the intensity, big time.

More subtle hints that they might make it look like Cohle is the killer. I can only hope that he isn't the real killer, and that they just briefly think he is, if anything. Preferably none of the above.

Just saw the first three episodes last night, and its pretty damn good. Due to the pacing I dont think I could watch just one episode a week, so I guess I'll save them up till the end. The killer most likely will be be related to the church and the governor.

Maybe I watch too much porn and I just filtered it out, but aside from Michelle Monaghan's boobs, what boobage are you guys talking about? EDIT: Must be the mistress.

Also, when I went to imdb to look up the show, I came across this:

True Detectives (1990–1991), also starring Woody Harrelson, and its in Louisana. Is this a remake of that show? Looks like maybe a pilot that wasnt picked up.

Huh? That IMDB entry doesn't mention Woody. It sounds like that show was a documentary/reality show, because the one listed cast member is a LA state trooper playing himself.

i think the killer might be the guy in the field wearing the diaper and gas mask while carrying an axe.

He's wearing a jock strap, not a diaper.

He's carrying a machete, not an axe.

Yes, I think you may be on to something - he may be the killer. :D

He'll be the guy they think is the killer, who's arrested and originally convicted, but not the real killer.

But fear not, OJ's out looking for the real killer!

The writing on this show is fucking phenomenal. I could watch this stuff over and over again.

After Breaking Bad, I didn't think I would ever see another meth cook wearing nothing but underwear and a gas mask. Then I saw Reggie Ledoux.
