HBO Developing Third WWII Miniseries with Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg

The follow-up to "Band of Brothers" and "The Pacific" will be based on Donald Miller's "Masters of the Air."

HBO confirmed Friday that it is developing a third World War II miniseries from Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg
.

Joining an oeuvre that already includes 2001's Band of Brothers and 2010's The Pacific, the untitled miniseries will explore the aerial wars through the eyes of enlisted men of the Eighth Air Force -- known as the men of the Mighty Eighth. The project will use at its source material historian Donald L. Miller’s nonfiction tome Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany.

I'll definitely watch it. The Pacific wasn't as well done as BoB but still enjoyed it. I'll make sure to reup my HBO when this hits.

In a few years after that, we should hopefully see a Naval combat series.

HBO and WWII: foot Soldiers of Europe, foot Soldiers of the Pacific, and now Aerial warfare; I should think Naval warfare should help round it all out, eh? :)

I hope it moves a lot faster in pace than The Pacific. The first half of that series was a snoozefest.

hope its as good as BoB. I didn't like the Pacific as much.

i like Triumph's suggestion too. A good miniseries about WW1. i think doing one with trench warfare would be good.

A good mini series about the 1st Air Cav in Vietnam would be good. Scout helicopters and gunships.

can we have some miniseries like this about ww1?

There was a post on reddit about why WWI is largely ignored by media.

WWII was a 'true' world war with fucktons of countries being involved, both east and west.

WWII has a clear despicable villain figure that we all like to see getting owned (Hitler and Nazi).

WWII is more 'dramatic' with concentration camps.

The problem with these series will always be the material. BoB was superior to the Pacific because it's a much easier/better/more exciting story to tell. I really have no idea where this one will stack up but it won't be as good as BoB. Nothing is as good as that source material.

Well shit, I can't find my BoB BR set. Watching The Pacific this week. Starting to pickup at Part 3.

I really wanna watch BoB again.

I disagree. This one has a bunch of good source material. Still the European theater. Wonder how they will tie in the downed airmen who became pow's.

It will probably be good but I just don't see anything ever topping BoB. We can only hope it's up to par.

WW1 would suck. Nothing like watching trench foot form and then a death by artillery barrage. No thanks.

A serious about naval warfare in WW1 would be cool. Battle of the Falkland Islands, Dogger Bank, Jutland. Big ships with big guns are pretty neat.

Heh I've watched it like 5-6 times now. Hard to not love it, especially when I wore Old Abe myself.

why not do some other wars, i'm sick of hearing about WW2 myself, it's been analysed to death.
