With Toyota and Honda, you have suffer the indignity of riding around in an oriental sushi wagon, but at least they're (usually) reliable. With Nissan, you get something that's ugly, Japanese, and unreliable.

Here we go, more JD power nonsense.
These are NUMBERS of REPORTED problems. That means that a rattle and a transmission problem count the same. People buying Nissans consider a defect what domestic buyers consider a feature.
You find me a domestic car that is built better than it's Nissan counterpart.
If domestic quality is so great, how come Ford, GM and Chrysler are the only ones advertizing their service departments. Must be big enough business to justify pouring all that marketing into it ;)

Err.. again. Try reading any magazine's car comparo (if you really want I can dig up Crap& Drivel, Automobile, R&T, CAR etc) in that segment, i.e. Accord, Passat, Camry, Maxima, Mazda etc. You will see that Passat is always the tops & winner in all comparision test. Accord is close in certain aspects, but Camry is way too far down the rack, both in performance/handling and luxury. The only thing which Accord and Camry have over the Passat is slightly better reliability, but that's about it. Accord & Camry are down right mundane cars with the average driver's age of 50-55 yrs. ...:disgust:

Heck if you know/read anything about autos, you will realize that most of the manufactorers in that category have Passat as the benchmark to beat. Nissan, Honda, Mazda, Toyota & Ford all benchmarked the Passat very much for their new gen Altima, Accord, 6 and Camry, Mondeo. Try doing a bit of research bud... BTW have you even driven a Passat?

About styling, to each his own. To me most of the Japanese design's appearance look quite chintzy/cheap, lemming and me-too sorts. The German cars on the other hand I find quite classic and often emulated by others i.e. Japanese.

America's Bestsellers
  • Ford had the most vehicles among the ten most popular in America. They were the F-Series, Explorer, Taurus, Ranger and Focus.

Here's the complete rundown of the top ten, with accompanying sales figures for the 2001 model year:

    • Ford F-Series 844,722
      Chevrolet Silverado 653,237
      Honda Accord 412,074
      Ford Explorer 394,198
      Toyota Camry 388,512
      Ford Taurus 349,742
      Dodge Ram pickup 344,498
      Honda Civic 323,074
      Ford Ranger 271,937
      Ford Focus 261,542
    Source: Automakers

Note: Model year sales are sales tallied from October 2000 through September 2001.
Go test drive a few 2 year old Explorers and Envoys. From what I hear, they're GIVING 'em away!

I've owned 2 explorers.

The thing I like about them is the gas tank size..

It's really nice having a few extra gallons of gas with every fill up. May not be the greatest vehicle in the world but both served every purpose I needed them for. Less stops at the gas pump regardless of mileage..

I made my comment without ever having driven a Passat or Accord. I like that mundane look. Sorry.

Those Bravadas are nice, like a luxurious little smaller Envoy. My priest drives one. Thought they were suppose to vow to a life of poverty? Hmm....

Anyway's have you looked at the Mazda Tribute or Ford Escape. Most practical SUV IMO. Car handeling, SUV looks. And get it fully loaded for $24k.

I voted envoy though. Too many explorers on the road. Envoy is newer and has more civilized looks.

GMC Envoy - Edmunds Consumer Rating: 9.2
Ford Explorer - Edmunds Consumer Rating: 7.9

Buy the Envoy.

I do not like SUVs. They cost a fortune in gas to run, they have a higher risk of rolling over... the list goes on and on. But hey, it's your money and your life.

Don't buy an SUV unless you actually need to haul something other than a sack of flesh, bones, and fat. And if you needed to haul anything realistic you'd get a real truck and if you need to haul people get a minivan. SUVs are the WORST automobile ever, designed for rich suburbanites with too much money and small reproductive organs. Get a real automobile, and at that get a hybrid car. SUVs are worthless and may they all crash and burn.
