One thing I've found that DOES make it more efficient is to add a bit of liquid dishwashing soap to the mix. Makes it stick to the plants better...and (according to one of my college professors) "makes the water wetter," so it's absorbed by the plant better.

I did that once, but almost created a disaster :$ The soapy-herbicide mixture started foaming badly inside the sprayer tank, and started leaking through the top. I wasn't aware of this at first and the herbicide dripped on a few desirable plantings.

don't use Roundup because the company that makes it (Monsanto) is evil. They love to sue the pants off of every farmer.
