Having a PLANNED pregnancy at 18...

So I learned a girl and guy from my high school who are 18 and 19 (and still in college) got engaged, and proceeded to purposely get pregnant a few months ago. They're both working full time jobs now preparing for the future.

Obviously it's none of my business..but what would prompt two responsible people (from what I remember) to do such a thing?

My brother and his wife did something stupid like that. He was 22 and she was 17, and they were trying to get pregnant. They got married soon after she turned 18, and then two weeks later they found out she was pregnant.

: ) Amanda

They both are probably very insecure about their relationship and see that having a kid would strengthen it, and make if harder for the other to bail.

I think we have a winner, give the man a cookie!

And yes Elemental007, alcohol is probably a factor here too.

Yeah I agree on the alcohol part. Maybe they just don't wanna say "Well we got drunk, and I gave her some surprise sex"

If they are happy with each other and their decision and have a means to support the kid, I am in favor of it. Who am I to say what's right or wrong for someone else.

What did I say wrong? For all we know it could have just happened and they don't want an abortion and they see this as a socially accepted way to get out of it. I honestly wasn't trying to be mean, if I was, I apologize, and will edit my post now.

They have NO idea what they are getting themselves into at this age in thier lives. Take it from the father of a 10 yr old. I was 25 when we had our daughter and let me tell you that was quite the life change. Allthough I wouldn't change it for the world now.

Without knowing the truth, I think his speculation of alcohol is acceptable and no one can tell which or whose guess is closer to truth.

I would think of alcohol too, if not for the part that OP mentioned they are responsible couple. I agree with TV that probably they are feeling insecure in their relationship in this young age, so they thought getting engaged and pregnant will bring a sense of security.

I think he meant it in a jokingly sort of way to get a jest. Lighten up a little.

Who cares? I know plenty of people who have had kids at that age and are doing fine. Yes, they were planned.

I would, but this guy constantly keeps on responding to my posts and threads and relating it to other things making it sound like he wants to make me look bad.... *sigh*

I think their's could work out because my friend's sister was in the same situation, maybe a year later in age.

Or the fact that the op said it was a planned pregnancy...

What, do you think they were drunk for 2 years in a row?
