Plea and get community service.

Next time have better doormen to keep cops out.

Or don't drink if you're under 21.

fuck that

Or be smart about it. i.e. don't go to a party with over 100 people in an apartment.

If a cop smells what seems like marijuana smoke from your house is that reasonable suspicion or probable cause? If its considered probable cause is he allowed to enter your house or does he still need a warrant.

In Utah, courts have ruled that the smell of marijuana alone is not probable cause and cops need to obtain a warrant. (Utah v Duran) Don't think it has been ruled in other states though.

Good luck getting the drinking age changed though. Number of voting 18-21year olds < Number of voting 21+ year old who don't care. I used to care about changing the drinking age but now that I'm past the magic number, I don't care.

They can enter the premises with reasonable cause that a crime is being committed and witnessing it. Seeing kids drinking booze and served to minors = crime.

Busts like this happen on ever college campus there is. Get over it.

If you want to avoid it, then don't serve to minors or allow them to consume on your property.

Amount of federal funding cut when a state drops the drinking age below 21 > the number of votes by sub-21 drinkers. :p

Apparently when the cops showed up I'm told that they came in without anyone letting them in through the front and back doors. They blocked the exits and forced everyone into a line to get their ticket and wouldn't let anyone leave unless they were 21 or had a ticket. They had breathalyzers, but eventually wouldn't let people use it. They also blocked the exits of the apartment complex. Is this standard procedure? Is there anything one can do in a situation like that (besides obviously not being there) and what are our rights in situations like these?

The moral of this story is: Don't have 100 people over to your apartment.

Here endeth the lesson.

Wow. Sucks. College town or no? I've been at too many parties that have been busted. They know there's underage drinkers. They just kick you out and if they're feeling mean they write you a noise violation ticket. I guess if they feel really mean they'll totally bust you for everything, but I've never heard of that yet. The last party I was at had a warning with a cop just parked outside the complex. We knew to STFU by then and get the drunkards out of there. No problems.

Also, it says that cops cannot enter without a search/arrest warrant. What about in the case of a noise violation?

Why the hell anyone would have 100 people over to their apartment for a party is beyond me quite frankly. Seriously...was anyone surprised that the cops showed up? I'd have been surprised if they hadn't.

+1

It's a red flag, you're just asking for the cops to show up by having that many ppl there. Surely a neighbor or management is going to complain.

My friend had a party at her condo a few weeks ago. Well over 100 ppl showed up and a lot of them were underage. Well, the cops showed up and basically said he was going to turn his back for 15 minutes and when he comes back all the people under 21 better be gone.
Surprised everyone at your party was ticketed though.

This is the second time I heard the word 5-0 used to describe the pOlice. First time was the NY Times, just hours ago.

Second time... today? Or second time in your life? Haven't you ever heard of the old TV showHawii Five-O? It had a very distinctive theme song, I'm sure you'd recognize it even if you've never actually watched the show.
