Have you taken an IQ test? Would you?

I thought about this, and decided some time ago I will never take an IQ test. No good can come of it.

Assuming the test says I'm below average, I will feel depressed and stupid.

Assuming the test says I'm above average, I'll turn into an even more arrogant asshole than I am now.

Assuming it says I'm average, I've gained nothing and dashed any hopes that I'm a genius.

In short, ignorance is bliss.

Took the test and did better than average which pretty much means I'm an underachiever and slacker. 😉 😛

I took one a couple of years ago while also being checked out for some different learning and mental aptitude things.
I scored greater than three standard deviations above the mean.

I tok one befre and scoret really low, lo enuf that itd said I was menttaly chellenged, WTFBBQWATRMELLON!!?!

Aren't internet IQ tests to real IQ tests as "Who's who among America's High School Students" is to valedictorian?

I took a couple of the long ones back in school to determine why I had no interest in class. I did well, 136-142. This put me in the top couple of percent. My CAT test scores also reflected that.

The internet "IQ" tests are bogus, and are mainly there so they can sell you reports and harvest your email address. The scores they give are unrealistically high, which benefits them, as you're more likely to purchase a report that shows that you're above average than one that says you are just average or below average. It's in their best interest to give out high scores.

Yes, they inflate scores to raise interest and compliment you, both in hopes to entice you into buying whatever they're selling. Rest assured, aside from PowerMac4Ever and MacBaine (both of whom I suspect required and got help), if you can log on to AT & post you're well above average.

no
no

waste of time, it doesn't change how smart you are

if you don't already know you are smart, then you aren't

No and No

There is no way it's worth the results, it is probably nowhere near accurate enough, and if the numbers weren't what you wanted to see, you might get upset over just that.. some stupid numbers.

I have no desire and will never take one... waste of time.

internet ones are BS, and they are only really accurate if taken at a young age

i took one as a kid but my parents would not tell me the score

edit - not to mention, the entire concept is pretty much flawed. did you know the IQ test was initially created by a person with the agenda of obtaining "scientific" proof that blacks were not as smart (scientific racism, or race-science).

2nd edit - the test is not flawed perse. it accurately classifies people that can do the test well from those that cant. it has also been used it substantiate racist ideas that certain groups are inherently stupider (aka inferior)

The irony of getting a 156 and not knowing what it means.

Under the normal model (or bell curve) the median and mean IQ is 100, with a standard deviation of 16. Thus, someone who scores a 148 in 3 standard deviations above the mean, which comes out to be around the (99.7+1.5) 99.85th percentile of all people.

LOL, where do you get your facts, from Al Sharpton?

Your parents probably didn't tell you the score because you scored very low. And the rest of your post reflects that fact. Tests were not created to show that blacks are not as smart. How can you design a test that gives you a score based on race? Does it ask how long it takes you to burn when you stand outside in the sun? Does it ask you where your ancestors came from? No, it just asks you logic and reasoning questions.

On a related note...has anyone else noticed the disturbing trend that most people who have high IQ scores (or at least the ones who advertise it) actually seem to be so brain dead when it comes to doing normal things that you wonder who helped them put their pants on this morning?

That's where intelligence comes into play.

I couldn't figure out how to put on all my clothes, so I invented an advanced super robot that helps me put on my pants and socks.

It occasionally attacks me, but you have to take the good with the bad I guess.

I may have been mistaken. Now I am not so sure about the motivation for the test... though I do believe I read there was pressure to substantiate racism. Nonetheless, it HAS been used over the past 100 years to justify it.

And in response to your insults. My parents did not tell me my IQ because they did not want that knowledge to interfere with my education. We can have an IQ/SAT/GPA dickmatching contest if you wish... But, for one, you will lose, and secondly I don't need to compare myself to others to know Im damn smart.

Laudable

I took one (I have no idea what kind of test it was) when I was seven and got 137 points.
I have no idea what that result means.

The initial tests created by Binet in France were intended to identfiy children that needed special attention in school.

Binets work is sort of the grandfather of todays intelligence quotient. BUT one of the reasons the IQ is so prevalent today is because certain groups used it to further their agendas of eugenics and racism.

I took one in grade school years later I also took an online one the online test gave me 20 points higher than the one I took in school.
