sadly they won't get it.

What does not paying lip-service to black causes have to do with black fashion? Do white people have to earn a certain amount of black credit before they may appropriate a given piece of black culture? How many exclamations of "Hands up don't shoot" in public are required for me to purchase a permit to wear dreadlocks? Or is it rental-only?

when you stop bs'ing and admit that racism is still alive and well in america, and actually have a conversation about it. a real one. then find a solution.

in the meantime stop stereotyping other cultures and then profiting from said cultures identity (i.e dress style, hair style, music style, etc).

I'll admit racism is alive, sure, but how does cultural appropriation significantly contribute to it?

What kind of a conversation? I'm all for ending the war on drugs and the creation of an independent federal agency to prosecute bad cops that won't be prosecuted by their own police departments. That would be a decent first step imo. What is your solution?

Who is stereotyping? Aside from that Katy Perry video which does seem shocking at least based on how it was presented, I don't see much stereotyping in that girl's YouTube video above. How do you prevent white people from profiting from it? White people make up the majority of our population. It seems likely that many white people would choose to identify most strongly with the actions of other white people, just as blacks do with blacks and Hispanics with Hispanics. Therefore, a white person bringing a black idea to the public's eye is naturally going to profit off of it more than a black person would. Do black people have a right to have their music purchased by white people?

What about when a black person from one culture appropriates from another black culture?

Also, why is there a black culture in America and a white culture? Where is American culture? Is it where the White and black overlaps? What about Spanish (Mexican, Puerto Rican, etc) speakers, when is their culture going to be part of American culture?

Oh come on. Throwing out the racist epithet in this context is a contradiction in terms. White kids who emulate black culture don't do it to ridicule or demean the people of that culture. They do it because it's different, it pisses off their parents and because they think it's cool. How the fuck is that racist?

i'm not about to sit here and do all of the research for you. google it. i'm pretty sure you're a semi bright person.

and what does the war on drugs have anything to do with anything? they are not targeting your neighborhoods regardless.

Doesn't work that way. All black cultures are exactly the same unless it's a white person saying they're all the same in which case they're ignorant. If you're black, everyone that lived in Africa, including the white Berbers and Egyptians, are yours to claim.

Are you seriously asking what the war on drugs has to do with black victimization? You don't think it disproportionately harms black people, but Eminem being successful somehow does?

i never said that was racist at all. please do some research on the topic.

I know you're being tongue-in-cheek, but that literally is what is happening in America. 😀
Not only with blacks, but with whites as well. It leaves me scratching my head but America is a very funny place.

hence the part about not targeting your neighborhood. idiot.

i'm done with this. it's like talking to wet paint drying.

idgi, I thought you wanted to have a conversation about racism and the struggle black people face in America. I'm bringing up the war on drugs because it's something that doesn't effect me, a white person, like it does black people.

People have bullshit opinions all of the time. If you don't question the source of your information, you're an idiot. So take your ball and go home but no one is going to take you seriously if you can't even present an argument supporting your position. And youtube videos from other morons don't count.

And you clearly missed the point. Her hair being straighten is quite different. White people's hair does not require being straightened to grow healthily. It is just a form of styling your hair there a white people with curly hair to. When black people braid their hair most of the time it's how we maintain it, keep it healthy and grow it. We can't not braid our hair, it is very necessary for our hair to grow and that makes it part of black culture. She is saying that it is cultural appropriation if you do things like this and think it's cool but then reject it when it's on black people. When black people braid their hair they are seen as ghetto and rejected by the white people regardless of how neat it may look or the fact that it is a necessity but when it's the other way round it is viewed as edgy, cool and fun. just take a look at the article of the girl who was reject at her job because she has braids and its against their policy. How is that fair? when thats how she maintains her hair. Its like me turning someone down for having silky straight hair. Also Kylie Jenner is someone who mostly has black friends and clearly likes or enjoys black culture but you never see them speak up when there are real issues concerning black culture. They feel it's not their concern because they aren't black but then it's ok to do all those other things. Being pro black does not mean anti white. You may not fully understand our struggles but you can at least empathise or raise awareness to them. But to ignore it and think that's acceptable is just annoying as hell.

I. Ghetto -- The Jews of Italy, Morocco, etc. called, they're mad that you appropriated their culture.

II. Pop Culture absorbs everything at some point. It uses it while it can, spits it out, and moves on to the next one. Yes, it sucks. We're moving towards one homogeneous mass. Regional differences are disappearing. The mom and pop shops of the past have been replaced by Starbucks and Home Depot. Dear Black Culture, you've been assimilated. Congratulations, you made it. You're just like everyone else now.

III. We have to braid our hair? I'm calling BS on that. My daughter is almost 16. I've known friends of hers since they were babies that have had braided hair for maybe 6 months total in that time. Their hair is plenty long and healthy.

IV. Stop worrying so much about pop culture. Kendall Jenner is not the bellwether of white philosophy. Some white VP of Finance with cornrows walks into a corporate board meeting and they aren't going to think its cool and edgy.

didnt vikings and several other ancient civs have dreadlocks as well as braided hair? Figure it was also both of a functional or aesthetic purpose.

The Yautja invented dreadlocks.

It's impossible to have a meaningful conversation about racism these days as the leadership of the black community has no intention of allowing any meaningful discussion. If that happened, progress might me made and if that happened, they'd lose their power and influence, i.e., the ability to shake people down and get rich off of hate.

As for the dreads? Read some history about them. I'll give you the Cliff's notes - they aren't unique to black people.

Ouch, my brain. . So, people got famous through marketing. Fashion styles changed. . People copied the new fashion styles because they were popular. . Then other people used the new popular fashions in marketing.

Wow.
