I probably should have said 'there is nothing to be defensive about' To defend and to be defensive can be two different things. Jesus died to defend us from our belief in our own sinfulness, no?
He died to pay for our sins, yes, but I don't think that involves us not believing we are sinful. Jesus' sacrifice didn't make us perfect, just forgiven.

I considered myself a socialist throughout late high school and early college, I am now a paleocon (as far as political parties go, conservative Democrat). Drastic change on many issues, I know, but it shifted over several years for a variety of reasons (observations from history and current events, influence from books I have read, shift towards realism, etc.).
Still a few lingering biases for COOPs and ESOPs from those days.
Basically, it boils down to fear of concentration of power and I now have less faith in the government than for-profit corporations.

I'm recently more on the fence regarding drug legalization. Friedman has convinced me that more harm is done than good by the prohibition of drugs. All of them. So I'm very near to supporting the legalization of not only marijuana, but other drugs too.
What about you?
Also, I'd like to ask a similar question for those of us over 20 or so. What issues do you hold as or more fervently now than you did when you were younger?
I'm 29, and my childhood-seated opposition to abortion has only come more clearly into focus since my siblings started having children, and even more so now that I had my first child this May.
I've changed on lots of ideas
abortion:
I was somewhat against abortion because I went to a catholic school and we learned that even unborn humans are special in some way. I changed my position to pro-abortion when I got a bit older and saw how bad some families were affected by accidental children. Single mothers being forced into poverty because day care is as expensive as rent, children being treated badly by asshole parents, kids turning into criminals because their parents were never around, etc. We all agree that these are real problems, but we have different ideas on how to make the situation better. I think abortion is one of those ways.
gays:
This has absolutely nothing to do with going to catholic school, but at one time I really did not like gay people. They're different from me, they're weird, and I didn't like that. I got older and saw that they're just like the rest of us except they love cock. Now I'm pro-gay because they don't really bother me anymore and gays don't have accidental babies that are born with fetal alcohol syndrome.
socialism:
In my younger days, I was extremely against socialism. I thought that people should do things themselves and should not require government handouts. Then I grew up and realized people are too fucking retarded to do things themselves and they need the government to basically force them at gunpoint to do the right thing. If some white trash piece of shit has $5,000 in cash, he'll spend it on drugs and booze instead of sending his kid to grade 2 (it really is that expensive). With socialism, we forcefully take that money away from people and spent it on their kids. This works with medical care as well. Do you know any Americans who save up hundreds of thousands of dollars just in case they get cancer? You probably don't. Most people do not plan for things that far in advance. In my country with socialized medicine, the government forces people to pay for medical expenses. This isn't like a US hospital where you can waste the ER doctor's time then not pay for any of it; anyone who has a job in Canada is paying for it through taxes and there's no way to skip out on the bill.
I used to believe that racism was dead in this country.. not anymore
Anti-Abortion makes no sense unless you consider sperm to be pre-babies too. Oh and what do people do with their sperm hmmm lol.
A fetus isn't just a sperm, or just an egg, every poster here was a "clump of cells". Used to be rabidly pro-choice, now I am still borderline, but only if the mothers life is in danger, or in the case of rape, or incest, other than that I believe in personal responsibility, if you can't take care of a child keep your legs closed, or your dick in your pants, if you can't than accept the responsibility of your irresponsibility.
You realize you are not punishing to forcing the mother/father alone right? you are also forcing the baby to live with a poor and single parent who will reluctantly raise him/her just coz she/he does not have a choice. Do you really think its a good idea to bring such a child into this world? specially when ending the life of that fetus is not exactly same as ending life of a human.

Ok, they didn't. Now what? No, I don't think it's a good idea at all, which is why I said ..."if you can't take care of a child keep your legs closed, or your dick in your pants, if you can't than accept the responsibility of your irresponsibility."

Why not let the child decide if he wants to live or not. What gives you the right to judge whose life is worth living and whose isn't?
Ok, they didn't. Now what?
Look at these cute little babies -
People who have sex without making a baby mass genociders!!!!
What's the alternative? Just let 'em starve? Also, you're drawing a false conclusion that people on welfare didn't get an abortion because the government will give them free shit. The government gives them their block of cheese, and a check at the expense of those than did? Great plan, that will definitely build prosperity. The more we subsidize irresponsibility, the more irresponsibility we get.
