Have you ever seriously considered a dog a friend?

I think that people and dogs share compatible social structures. This way we can have social contracts with the dogs, for example, I trust my dog won't tear my hand off when we fight- he trusts I'll feed him. Therefore, I think the dog can be my friend.

Brings a strange meaning to "man's best friend"... 😕

I guess I just never thought the dog and I "shared an aggrement" not to be... in competition I guess? But instead be... supporters. Friends. meh, I thought about this one way too long.

In my family they are LITERALLY family members. My dad refers to us and the pets (dogs and cats) as siblings. He'll tell the dog "go to your brother".

Second, they don't. There was a local incident here a little while ago, where an elderly man died in his home... and the dog didn't eat him. When they discovered the man, they discovered the dog was in starvation and nearly dead himself.

Second, they don't. There was a local incident here a little while ago, where an elderly man died in his home... and the dog didn't eat him. When they discovered the man, they discovered the dog was in starvation and nearly dead himself.

i hear you, but friends dont eat friends, right. i mean, if we are putting dogs on that level and all.....

so one dog didnt eat the dead owner. how is that representative of all dogs?

Well how do you know dogs eat their owners when they die? How many people do you think die each year with dogs in the house, and how often have you heard this?

personally, i know of one. my boss' grandma. but the cat she had started it all, so says the dog.

fact is they are animals. they get hungry, the will eat before they die whether its you or kibbles n bits. in the context of what we are talking(dead owner).

How much do you know of animal behaviour? Most animals don't eat their kind. Lots of animals are found each year that are neglected together, and you'll find some died from starvation, and others close to death... and why? it's because they didn't eat the dead ones.

dogs/cats do not equal people. sure, they see you as the family, but they arent dumb enought to think you are the same animal as they are.

My dad, brother, and I were the same way with my old dog. He was definitely a third son and a second brother. The current dog knows who 'Mom' is, but hasn't caught on to any other familial names.
