LOL, don't worry DanC. (and prodigy!)

I like to talk tough sometimes (it's good to keep everyone confused!) but I would never treat a weapon lightly. I'm actually leaning towards the stun gun.

I don't want to have to pay someone to clean my carpets.

I would rather him suffer some years of his life away behind bars.

Why fill the jail up more there is plenty of room in the ground for people like that

ahhhh. IMHO no.

If you are going to use deadly force - use it. Otherwise - don't bother, he'll kill you with it.

You must be justified. This means to prevent "imminent serious injury or death of yourself or another" - nothing else cuts it. You are held to the same standards as the police.

If you have the slightest qualm - don't bother, because if you hesitate, you'll be fed your firearm. Just a couple of words from a rabid conservative.

But a slug from my 12 gauge would be too quick and painless of a death. Suffering behind bars and wasting your life away there (and having to deal with "Bubba" ;)) I see as a greater punishment. Of course the revenge would be sweeter if there was some sort of torture involved. (*insert sadistic smile here*) ;)

DanC and prodigy!

Your opinions...

Firearm or stun gun for me?

I'll be making the final decision this weekend, and would like learned opinions.

I'm most likly over reacting to this whole situation. I'ts probubly some punk ass kid just playing a joke on people he finds in the phone book. I've watched too much TV not to take this stuff seriosly.

Hangun, although Mr Isla thinks I need a shotgun.

However, I have been working on my upper body strength with a personal trainer and should have the physical strength and control I need now.

Firearm or Stun Gun?

no question in MY mind. My wife carries a SigSauer... I carry a SigSauer. I've owned every model, in every barrel length Smith ever made - and never have found a finer weapon than a Sig. Expect to PAY for quality. Russ will disagree with me. He has this foolish penchant for Beretta's - which is OK if you're 6'5" and can conceal it. The Sig's are more compact.

Stun gun? - Better to use foul language.

The only problem I see with handguns is without proper training it may be hard to actually "hit" the target. Most likely you won't have time to actually simulate a scenario with someone breaking into your house so you won't be aware of your own emotional state if (god unwillingly) the event occurs. You might be extremely hyped up on adrenaline or even panicky and your aim might suffer. With a buckshot loaded shotgun, the spread of the pellets will make up for that. It's merely point and shoot.

I feel so worthless...haven't gotten 1 anonymous threat ever, yet. That's probably a good thing, though, considering as though I'm probably below the legal age to own a firearm (if there is such a thing).

Aim at the kneecap or between the legs. Might not be as quick or painless as you think. :D

Zilldian: Don't worry about it -- it's probably nothing. However, I'd be watchful for a little while just in case.

Sure... face grand jury indictment for attempted murder.

Finish the episode - or do not participate. Period.
Be a pacifist, or defend what is yours.

Shooting at the kneecaps... get real. If you shoot at all - shoot to kill - otherwise you have no business shooting.

DanC, couldn't you use the defense that you simply wanted to incapacitate rather than kill the perp? Don't police officers usually try to just harm and disarm (i.e. shoot at the shoulder) an armed suspect, instead of killing him will a bullet between the eyes.

Dan,

The Sig is okay if you're not man enough to carry a Beretta! Bwuahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!

Isla,

Your Husband is correct. If it is for home protection, the shotgun is clearly the best choice.

Looks like someone forgot to have his fiber today!!

Lighten up -- you'll live longer. It was a joke.

I'd only shoot for the kneecaps if it was some bastard that had hurt someone dear to me, and I wanted to play with them before killing them, such as if some guy raped my wife. You bet your ass that if I cornered the prick I'd shoot every joint (ankles, knees, elbows, etc.) before actually killing him. I'd start with the groin and then finish hopefully before he bleeds out.

Thus should be for every rapist, so I'm a little biased. But anyway...

<< All LEO's are trained to shoot to kill. >>

Actually, isn't it more accurate to say that they are trained to shoot for the central body mass, which just happens to be the heart? That combines the increased likelihood of a hit with a good chance for an incapacitating wound (sucking chest wound will stop someone, too). I'll have to ask my friend who was a cop for four or five years on exactly what they were taught.
