Real fights don't usually involve punches to the face. At least not while standing. Two guys trying to box each other aren't 'fighting,' they're having a pissing match.

I'll freely admit to having received but never given a punch to the face. People who brag about winning 'fights' of this type are typically just enormous douchebag pussies who have temper tantrums and throw 'suckerpunches.'

Yes to both. I used to love to fight.

When I was a kid, we used to fight out of boredom.

Definitely done this, but general etiquette was no facepunching. Basically wrestling with body blows (okay that sounds mildly homosexual, I realize).

Only about two instances in my life. Me and a friend were wrestling on a trampoline. He starts punching me at my chest while I'm pinned down (fine) and then punches me in the face (at least twice). My reaction was mostly of confusion and bewilder... I thought, "wtf? Alright, bitch, if we're gonna play that way then say goodbye to your future children." The fight ended soon after with him in great displeasure.

The other was when some girl punched me in the face while I was in class at middle school. The teacher did nothing about it. I was pretty surprised by the teacher (She was an asshole, but I didn't expect her to sink that low). It didn't hurt, but I was more surprised that the girl had the nerve. I didn't hit her back because that would have gotten me in trouble (Double standards).

Only two instances that I can recall. I've had much worse happen though. (Head bashed into a concrete wall and so forth (Same thing with the teacher btw. Different guy, but they all pretty much had it out for me))

EDIT: I don't recall ever punching anyone in the face.

Sounds too gentlemanly for the crowd I grew up around. A black eye or broken nose was a badge of honor.

I dunno, I've been in over 100 fights, and while I didn't keep exact track. I know most of them started with him and I standing and both of us swinging for the fences. Before a fight makes it to the ground you're vertical, the only exception to throwing face shots while standing would be pussies who are scared of getting hit in the face so they go for a wrestling like take down. Because on the ground punches pack a lot less power, and hurt a whole less lot less. I'd say a good 50% of my scraps never made it to the ground. The ideal fight is, punch them in the face before they punch you, and when they go down throw a few kicks to finish it off. I know this because I was on the losing end a good number of them and this is how many fights ended for me :D

Semantics, perhaps. To me, a 'fight' has a major goal...like survival. Such fights are usually rather messy, fumbling affairs.

Fist fights typically have no goal but dominance or maintaining pride. Usually the end is brought about by outside forces or someone simply giving up.

I know the army didn't have any interest in teaching me to box. Their newer hand to hand stuff is based more MMA-style fighting. True struggles are gonna end in ground fighting.

There are sure to be exceptions, but most of the punches to the face I've observed are less a 'fight' and more of somebody being a dick. I dislike the 'settle things with a fight' mentality. If someone feels they have reason to punch me, I have zero issue with shooting them. I guess I'm the 'little bitch with a gun' or whatever somebody said earlier; but I see it more as 'the guy with the maturity to avoid physical altercations.' I have no interest in asserting dominance, but will not hesitate to end a physical threat in the most efficient way possible. I view any fight as an attempt on my life, and will not fuck around in such a situation.

Perhaps the few in this thread that appear to like to fight to impress should consider that the next time they want to start a 'scuffle.'

Both. Even took a chair to the face a few years ago when I was assaulted with pepper spray over laundry.

Besides that altercation, I haven't been in a fight in years. My fights were in school and didn't even involve me directly. I joined in to protect my friends, but I never had someone want to fight me. Won all those fights as well and never got in trouble because we were always outnumbered.

Most of the people stopped messing with my friends once they knew I would stand up for them.

post is self explanatory - have you ever punched anyone in the face? or been punched in the face? if so, why? what did it feel like? what happened afterwards?

i was at a restaurant today and a couple guys started arguing, and before i knew it BOOOM one of them punched the other in the face with a sucker punch! think he got knocked out cold, but i am not sure since i didnt feel like getting caught up in it so i just ran out of there. realized i didnt pay when i got home :( so i will probably go back and pay tomorrow

Although I voted yes to both I think the poll might be more useful with age parameters. I haven't been in a fight since I was 13-14 years old. There's a huge difference between a kid fighting and adults fighting.

When I was younger (grade school) I fought a lot, and in martial arts during sparring we threw a lot of head punches. I wouldn't really count that though.

Aside from that, this summer I was drunk at my neighbors house, and we were messing around and I caught him in the jaw pretty good. I didn't mean to punch him in the face, it was just a natural reaction that I didn't filter. Luckily he laughed about it, because the guy is huge and he would destroy me if we really fought. It was an awkward silence immediately after it happened though, and I sobered up quick when I realized what I did. Oops.

Yes to both, waaaaayyyyyy back in my school days. As an adult I must admit there have been times I wanted to punch someone in the face.

Yes to both many times when I was a kid. It was all part of the learning process to avoid such situations as an adult.

got punched once in high school.

this other guy in my class (who was twice as big as I was) thought it would be funny to throw my backpack in the girl's bathroom. i went in to get it and he followed me in. I forget all the details but he was trying to do something and I was closing the door on his arm so he couldn't do it. I bent down to get my backpack and when i came up, he sucker punched me in the face.

He ended up giving me a concussion.

During boxing. Does that count?

One time some guy ranged my bells real good and I definitely felt woozy. If guys are actually slipping and moving around it's hard to actually get a solid hit on someone's face. That's why you lead with some jabs to knock his back a little bit and make him drop his hands then land a money shot to knock his brain against his skull. If you're in a clinch you're not really going to have enough room to pivot into a power shot unless you land a crazy uppercut/elbow to the temple.
