haven't you heard ppl saying "I just slept with a girl/guy who I don't even know her/his name."
Sex is a basic instinct that even when your head is soaked with alcohol your other head can still function.... at a slower speed nevertheless. Yeah, it would make it harder to get it up, but once its up it ain't going down anytime soon. :)

You can do pretty much anything while you are having a concious blackout. Sure it is harder to get it up and keep it up after you've had a ton to drink. I don't want to go into too much detail on this forum, he could keep it up, it may not be as erect as it normally could be, but it would be enough to have sex and even climax. The human body is an amazing thing and can basically run on autopilot. Your body can continue to move, talk, and function pretty much like normal but your memory and parts of your mind are fast asleep.

edit: to andylawcc: many times the situation where people have sex and don't know each others name is because they have poor judgement due to being drunk and don't bother to get each other's names, but often they'll remember the act the next day and even what the girl looked like. However, getting a girl's name and talking to her for 3 hours (maybe having sex) and not having any recollection of it the next day is a different issue.

No, you just haven't drank enough! We all start out with that "safety device" but the more one drinks the less likely they are to get sick and the more likely one is to experience a black out. It is one of the many signs of alcoholism and shouldn't be taken lightly. Some other signs are not being able to control your bodily functions which happens to all alcoholics at one time or another and only gets worse or happens more frequently if the individual does not stop drinking altogether. Another symptom/warning sign of alcoholism would be when an individuals sh!t is green and stringy.;)

Dezign, i hope i don't change the subject on you.... maybe you can add a poll to see how many drinks it takes for someone to black out. For me to blackout, i need to go into double digits.

Damn. So you honestly don't remember a thing... there are "gaps" in memory from the night before? Can you tell when you're beginning to black out, or does it just happen all of a sudden? Do you think someone can or should be held responsible for what they do during a "blackout"?

The other night I had about 14 beers and 5 shits, and remember the night vividly. So it all depends.

Used to happen to me on a regular basis. There's about a 3 year period where I actually don't remember much at all. I was young, stupid, had low self-esteem, and I believe I was trying to kill myself through booze.

Oh dear. :( Harvey, do you think a shrink/psychiatrist is really necessary? Could this be a sign of deeper issues, or can his body just not handle such quantities of alcohol?

Yeah, it's a sign of acoholism.

Numerous times, although only once did I do something I regret...and boy do I regret it. The other times I'll be perfectly with it at the time, but have a spotty memory the next day. It's usually things toward the very end of the evening that I can't remember, like leaving the club or party, since my brain like shuts down as soon as it knows it's not needed :p

I don't "black out" - but I sometimes have to consciously think about recalling memories. They come back no problem, I just need a little prompting.

Example - walking with group of friends from downtown to Subway. Half the journey is missing when we arrive. I think "Wait, we're here already?" *gears grinding* "Oh yeah, at ____th street Matt's dumb ass yelled at a cop and we had to get scarce."

- M4H

Not me, I've been told vivid details of the one night I blacked out and I honestly can't remember any of it. It's not something I'm proud of.

Waking up and not recognizing either where you are or the woman beside you is rather freaky. Had to call my friend to come pick me up because I had no idea where I was and didn't remember getting there.

Same... one experience is enough for me. But i had a friend that regularly got drunked and blackoutted... and he wasn't a good drunk. He's the type that gets mean and violent. But he does because it gives him an excuse to act the way he acts.

Man I hate people like that. Why drink if you're just going to turn into a mean asshole. I just get happy and everyone is my best friend.

It is marginally more difficult, but its still pretty easy.

As for responsibility for doing what you do when drunk. I never do anything drunk that I wouldn't do sober if pressed. I just fall down more and am more social. People who say "Oh I was so drunk I didn't know what I was doing." are full of it. They knew exactly what they were doing, and they wanted to do it. Its beer, not PCP or Acid.

Jebus...you drank enough to PASS out but can remember every part of a party till the time you passed out? Thats insane, they give you a saline IV at the hospital? My friend has had to go to the hospital twice for alcohol and he never wakes up with a hangover afterwards, I'm like uhhh how is this helping him?!? but yes blackouts are very real 2 or 3 times I know of parts of the night are missing, I've never drank enough to pass out though, that sounds like a bit of a problem...

Yeah a friend of mine is/was like that, he'd been to the hospital twice for his drinking and a party last semester he was pretty drunk before we went out (not buzzed, drunk) and was getting pretty violent, tried to start a fight with me over who got shotgun on the ride over (well I was driving so it was kinda like wtf?!) Any ways at the part he was wearing a jacket and took it off for a while then tried to put it back on, but inside out AND upside down, then he walked up to some chick that was dancing with her bf grabbed her ass and started dancing with her and I had to make him sit down and tell the chicks bf to chill out. So I took him back to his dorm, the RA called the cops and they made him go to the hospital, I took him to an AA meeting at the salvation army with all the homeless people, and he hasn't had a drink since. Hope it lasts, that was a damn scary place.

Yeah, he must be gifted. I know when i'm extremely wasted, it's hard for me to keep any sort of erection for long... unless she's doing all the work.

I wonder if any of those girls ever got pregnant...

Blackouts occur because alcohol saturates the brain, and prevents the sober memory from recording events properly. However, it is known that once drunk again, you remember those events that happened while drunk before, but forgot when sober.

How strange... so once the brain is saturated with alcohol again, he will remember events that happened during the blackout? Or does he need to black out again in order to recall events from the blackout (which wouldn't be very useful)?

LOL i'll take that with a grain of salt.

this is by far the most interesting thread i've read in many a days here at AT.

And no, I have never experienced a blackout. I've only puked once, but that was more my friends fault and lack of judgement then my own. I'm just too paranoid to get that sh!tty
