Have you ever eaten at a restaurant

and got the impression while you were there that maybe the people who work there eat the leftovers off customers plates in the back?

I've been to a few Chinese restaurants where I suspected the left-overs either got reserved to customers...or ended up being added to the mix later...

I never went back when I got that impression of the place.

I work in a restaurant, and have never seen this happen. I've seen a server snag a fry off the plate taking it out of the window many times, but nothing being eaten coming back in off the floor. That's just gross.

Most waitstaff will NOT do anything like this, as they have the good sense not to eat something into which they have already put their bodily fluids.

I worked in a restaurant in high school where this was a common occurrence (never by me). I assume this happens at most places, especially chain restaurants.

It probably also depends on age of the wait/kitchen staff. If it's primarily high school or college age kids I think it's much more likely to happen.

I used to work at Red Lobster and saw people do this. There would be times the food looked untouched and so some servers would take a bite before throwing it away. Kinda nasty but its on them I guess. The people who ate there when I worked there were pretty nasty so I wouldnt recommend it.

Fellow RL alumnus here...

I was a busboy in high school and I don't remember a server doing it, but honestly when we were out on the floor we were heads-down, clear the tables as quickly as possible and there wasn't a lot of time to look around.

who cares? you're not eating it. they're not eating food you want. they're the ones being disgusting. sounds like this isn't a real problem.

I bet the people of North Korea wouldn't find it disgusting. :colbert:

Probably wince seeing all that food go into the trash.

I've done more than my fair share of catering and I can confidently say: no frickin' way.

EliteRetard might say otherwise but he didn't work for us.

I have no problem with that, it happen a lot outside 1st world people keep left over for themselves better than wasting it.

Why eat the leftovers when you can just "accidentally" cook the wrong thing, then eat it?

That's how I did it back in college!

Was just about to reply with this. No sense eating stanky leftovers when you can just make that shit fresh. YMMV depending on restaurant.

I try not to think of what might happen in restaurant kitchens. This in particular would not bother me, it's not like it affects the food that I get, but stuff like food being re-served after it's been on someone else's plate, or kitchen staff not washing their hands after going to the bathroom are things I rather just not think or know about. 😛

Many years ago my buddy delivered food for a chinese restaurant, and he would nibble on the food. You thought you were getting 6 fried shrimp, but you would only get 5, etc..
Then he would stop off and visit a girlfriend.
This was in the days before cell phones and gps.
The Chinese owner would go nuts when my buddy finally showed up an hour later.
My buddy didn't last long at that job.

I'm aware of a local restaurant that served the veggies in a side dish. If it appeared they weren't touched, they were put back into the pot. Ditto things like the complimentary tortilla chips and dip that were on the table. Several friends who worked in the kitchen there reported the practice to their friends; I find them rather trustworthy. The owner was from a Middle Eastern country - he used to threaten the female staff regularly.

Any mistakes at Jack In The Box went into a bucket in the freezer that the manager would inventory regularly.
