however long ago it was, my mom woke me up at like 5am to stand in line for a copy of Super Mario Brothers 3 @ KB Toys. We were the first in line, got out copy, and watched plenty of people go home empty handed.

Couple years back, me & a couple friends got up early to get in line to buy the lastest Foo Fighters cd. They were giving out 1 free ticket for every customer. We got there like around 5:30(opened at 10), & the line was already halfway around the block, completely full of hobos & hippies. We didn't even bother waiting.

Also waited in line about 5 1/2 hours so that I could get a good spot on the floor for the Primus concert at Roseland last year. They were late(as always) & the drinks were really expensive, but the music was good, I went home sore, but happy.

I camped out overnite at ToysRUs to get a Furby for one of my kids who was in the hospital and really wanted one. The people in line were really nice and friendly, we had a good time, and then the doors opened and everybody turned into screaming idiot animals. If I hadn't been second in line I wouldn't have gotten in because of the riot, and the store only had a few of the darned things anyway - their shipment hadn't come in yet. People were screaming and throwning things at those of us who actually got the Furbys, and trying to take our packages. The cops were rolling in when I left.

I've waited for concert tix and that was fine. Rabid drug-infested rock music fans > idiot toy collectors.

Furby was a really really lame toy and my daughter played with it for maybe 5 minutes. Then she couldn't get rid of the annoying noise and the hospital made us get rid of it. Daughter never wanted it back.

I did to get a Gamecube. But they let us stay in the store, not outside. We watched movies on a laptop and my wife brought us food. It was a good time.

Hah, Skoorb.

The closest I've come to camping out for anything would have to be the PS2. I had a good feeling those would be fetching a mighty nice price after they all sold out.

I worked at Best Buy at the time and knew that what we were going to do was hand out numbers to people as they arrived so that they wouldn't be forced to sit outside all night. So, I just made sure that I had #1 and I made sure that a couple of friends showed up for two other #'s. My camping time totaled maybe 30-60 minutes and ended at around 11PM. It was great because the next morning I arrived and saw some massive line of people waiting around and made my way to the special 'For those who already have #'s' line. I kind of felt bad getting there 5 minutes before the store opened and then walking past over 100 people on my way to taking the #1 spot in line, waving at my two friends on the way up.

That was the fastest money I ever made. We sold one of the PS2's in the parking lot on the way back to the car for more than twice what I paid for it about 5 minutes earlier.

that's kind of messed up......but i don't care.
hhahahahaa

during the ps2 release, i walked into best buy 2 hours after it opened, and people wer going crazy. i saw the manager w/a cart of ps2's putting them in the back manager room. people were salivating like crazy.

i went up to him and said, "hey can i have one of those, please?" and he said that because i asked nicely i could have one. apparently everyone was screaming at him and demanding one. then he told me to buy a basket of accessories so they can have their ps2 numbers boosted up. i bought another controller, some games, and the dvd remote and crap.

everyone was jealous of me.

i went and sold it on ebay for $250 profit. :)

And people think that yelling at retailers is the way to get things done. I work them the same way you do bro. I've been on the other side and I know what works with those people and what doesn't. Yelling at a guy in a situation like that one is NOT the way to get the hook up.

Why would you do this?
Unless there is a giveaway or the item is in short supply and the supply will not be replenished, I can't imagine why you would bother.

Episode 1 (Star Wars). About 5 friends and I got to the mall at about 6:15 (with McDonalds breakfast) after about 2 hours of sleep. Had to go around back to find the unlocked door where the KMart employees came in. Ended up in front of the theater with the security gates closed. Eventually had a TV/VCR with Ep. 4 playing (had to wait until 8 or 9 when they unlocked the rest of the mall to go to the ATM to run into KMart to buy it), 2 computers playing Starcraft, and maybe 15 of us with pillows, sleeping bags and few games of euchre going on. Oh, and a lot of Mountain Dew, 2 or 3 cubes as I recall. There were a couple of guys behind us who made an hour and half drive to get there at 7:30 and be stuck behind us wackos. Of course, they brought chairs. By the time we started Ep.4 on theTV/VCR there was an audience of like 30 people watching it behind us. I remember the old people going in to work at KMart (and mallwalk) giving us some really strange looks.

It actually makes my memory of the movie a lot better.

13 hours is nothing...they opened a COMPUSA nearby in Frisco, TX on a Friday...peope were camping out by Wednesday afternoon with tents, couchecs, sleeping bags, etc...I had a friend drive by the place around 8 pm on Thursday and the line was nearly around the building already...

Here

the 2nd page tells the story...just ignore my little banter at the top of the 2nd page...heh heh....

as for my wait, we just talked and hung out with the other people in line...had a great time...

No, did spend the night on line outside Yankee Stadium for tickets to the '98 series, game 2 though... There was no other way to get them; even some people who did this didn't get tickets. Some damn crackhead stole my car stereo while I froze my boys off :|

I've gotten to a store an hour or so early if that counts. Never been there all night or anything like that.

I have done it for movies though.

Man, was it really that serious!? :p

There's nothing I need or want that badly that I would do what some of the posters in here have done. Ok, maybe if computer and home theater parts were marked 90% off...but no less. :D

Well, this definately wins the dorkiest camping out award. But the day is young and someone may yet top it!
