Have you ever been trolled while playing online?

When PC gaming I rarely play online. While perusing YT I came across a huge number of "trolling" videos, mainly focused on xbox live gaming. These trolls create their own videos and post them on YT. Here is a humorous example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhrtbiQhqO8

Sorry, but I can't stop laughing. I know, I know but I'm sick. I haven't laughed so loud in a long time. The troll plays with a 12 year old starting about 4:45 in the video. Was wondering if anyone else had run into anything like this while PC gaming online?

One time playing Natural Selection 2 some idiot tried trolling the team. He made himself look like a huge ass with the whole team ignoring him and he kept saying his youtube channel like people gave a fuck. People on the other team even told him to leave as all he is doing is ruining the game for both sides lol

I played a HoN game once (which has pretty much the worst community on the internet) with an especially bad player who kept saying, in a horribly imitated accent (not sure what accent he was even attempting), "no speaka de English" and for some reason this particularly irked me. I am not one to get trolled often, but this guy actually made me rather angry. =(

I've ran into trolls, but I'm always on servers with admin and they just kick them pretty quick.

Yea, I think LoL is the worst for me. I mean..every game has it's share of trolls, but pretty much 9 of 10 games has at least one in LoL. They have "things" in place to counter it, however they aren't very effective, and it doesn't take much trying to manipulate the other players into using against the wrong people.

Ok I'll admit that was pretty funny for some reason.

There are tonnes of them on L4D2. I run into very few in TF2 as all the servers I play on either do not attract them or are very quick to eliminate them. It can be extremely annoying.

Ehh, I haven't really played online outside of with close friends on small/private servers over the last 10 years or so.

I have run into Trolls in the distant past though.

F2P games are always horrible for that. No risk when you're banned. I know it was horrible in LoL until I leveled up my account far enough that I didn't get matched vs new accounts. Haven't played in a long time though.

I don't play too many online games, so no, never really seen it. I did troll once in Trine 2 online cause the other 2 jerks left me stuck in a room forever.

Funny for SOME reason?

"I'm 12 years old and I call people dumbass on Xbox Live!"

"SHUT UP!!!"

What's not to laugh about? How about the heavy breathing? How do people get away with this ... especially on a pay-as-you-play service like Xbox Live?

Yeah SC2.

Was nice to a guy, he shat all over me. Later realized it was just for his lulz. I felt kinda stupid.

Trolling is basically a regular occurrence in SC2 and WoW. Thinking back to WoW's launch in 2004, servers were more tightly knit and to group with folks, you had to be friendly -- so trolling wasn't a big issue back then. You couldn't get groups if you were a jerk-off, and for the most part the skilled players knew who the trouble makers and ninja looters were. Blizzard was also very very aggressive with handing out temp bans for saying racial slurs and what not back then, sad to say they aren't now. You can basically get away with anything now, and even if you report someone nothing happens.

I've really started to despise WoW shortly after the release of Cataclysm, everything about the game is so different now. The anonymity is part of that - you can queue dungeons while sitting in a city and then you'll end up in a group with some idiot spouting the N word nonstop. And of course two of his friends are there so you can't kick him. And then there's the 13 year old min maxers who rage when you don't do xxxx dps. Heck you can play the game while just queuing stuff nonstop. All of the excitement and exploration is gone. I understand some prefer the game this way, and I won't get into a big long debate about that - but the new system does lend itself to trolls, especially when blizzard never takes action against them. Bleh.

Nah, I'm usually careful about who I deal with online. When I did BF3 I got to know a couple people and we always tried to group up to avoid the trouble makers and just do what we had to do.

I know they're out there, but I don't play a whole ton of online games with random people.

Every so often I run into someone trying to block a door or something. I just dont react and they get bored. Although strangely enough I used to play Burnout with a dude who used to breathe like that guy in the video. Every so often someone would yell STFU! lol He also had that stereotypical nerd nasal voice, so people would laugh when he talked. I always assumed he didnt have many friends, so I kept him on my friends list. To think if he actually recorded those sessions, he could be getting 300K views on YT.

The whole trolling phenomena is kinda weird though. Why people would go out of their way to ruin other people's game is beyond me. Also funny how people on XBL think the threat of hacking is supposed to scare someone. I wonder what they would do if you threatened to hack them back...

Always seems to be that way. Or worse, the other random pugs side with them because they're just as terrible.

It just isn't the same game it used to be. There was a great community on each sever if you weren't terrible. If I didn't have some RL friends playing, I'd be gone.

Actually I knew someone who worked with an old MMO as a GM and he would play as a normal player too. One day someone asked for his help and he told them no. I think they asked for money or free stuff. Anyway they threatened to hack his account etc. So he logged in as a GM account and told them who he was and put them in the online jail for a month or something.

Threats toward people you don't know can come back to bite you lol.

Play decent games that let you go through teammates or with ff on and kill them.

Some of it was him blocking a person and they couldn't even jump over him when he was crouched made me sad.
