have you ever anticipated something really bad, then when it releases be totally let down?

You would have thought MS would have at least done a half decent job on making a decent browsers for the Zune HD...I surf a lot on my iPhone 3G when on the train. But it's pretty gimpy when listening to music and the music stutters a bit as your writing a text message, pretty ghetto. My bro's 3GS doesn't do that I think? I guess the OS isn't able to balance it all 😛

Why would you expect it to have an App Store like the iPhone/touch? We would have heard of it ions prior to release, nothing to be disappointed about.

Because MS is trying to compete with the iPod Touch. I think they will come up with a full-fledged app store eventually.

Unless you actually care about sound quality. In that case *>any apple product to date. They're slick devices, but once you get used to really hearing your music you'll never be able to tolerate an ipod.

I doubt I'd be able to tell the difference between them, but this guy disagrees with you:

Apple's not been good about making a device that is able to multi-task.
Microsoft has that in its blood with the Windows Mobile platform, so I am a little disappointed in how Microsoft is apparently going to go about their App store.
The browser, well, is exactly what I expected - shit. 😛 But I don't plan on using that. I have Opera Mobile on my Omnia and will have that on me at any time.
Plus, wifi here on campus is a bitch - uses encryption that requires certificates and other thing, a lot of hoops that just doesn't fly with small portable devices.

But Microsoft has this issue, where they think the world actually likes Internet Explorer. They cannot make a good browser, so anyone expecting the Zune's to be good was seriously mistaken. 😛

But since I didn't get the Zune HD for the browser and apps (will use good ones that are available, but it isn't something that I crave/need/demand), it's a non-issue.

Maybe on oooooold gen iPods yet. But I would bet money 99% couldn't tell the difference between newer ones and a Zune or Sandisk. I take that back, some might be able to, as they will sound slightly different. But none will say it sounds horrible. I had a Zune, and now I have a Touch, if anything the Touch sounded better. As in the link just posted on CNET, the bass is definitely better. This is with Grado SR-80 headphones. The supposed shit sound quality of the newer iPods is GREATLY exaggerated.

Yep. You would need high quality (read:expensive) headphones to make out any difference in audio quality, anyway.

*shrugs* I haven't heard a zune HD yet, but I do know that my cowon d2, iriver H120, and Sansa (with rockbox) sound better than the ipod touch. Granted what sounds 'better' can be subjective but the people I know wouldn't count sound quality as a strong point of the touch.

I didn't say it was shit, I said it was worse. I also said 'if you care about sound quality' which most people don't really think twice about. Yes it's a very slim few that can tell or even care, but that doesn't mean it's not true. Yea I'm an audio snob... I'm in the minority.

I think the Zune HD is great. Good interface + HD radio = win in my book.

This is the reason I'm geeked about it too. I could care less about apps. How is the player itself? Anyone else have one?

how much less could you care?
