have you ever anticipated something really bad, then when it releases be totally let down?

I have owned all kinds of mp3 players since the launch of the ipod, everything from ipods to Creative, but I like the Zune interface and software the best. So naturally I was excited when i heard about the new Zune HD. MS was tight-lipped about the apps but I was certain they would have an awesome app store like Apple. That was the first big blow, then I saw a web browser loading test on the engadget review..ugh. It was against the new 3gs iphone using wifi, the 3gs loaded the page 35 seconds faster! And the Zune's browser didn't even completely load the page :/ Another big - is that the apps have ads you can not skip and take forever to load(the calculator takes 7 seconds supposedly).

MS I wanted to rush out and buy an HD but I just simply can not do it, I will be sticking with my old 30 gig or get an 80/120 on the cheap from craigslist

[/emo rant]

meh, I suspect it can all be remedied in the near future. A bit disappointing that it had to ship like this, but not annoying enough to turn me away from one.

I use my MP3 player for listening to music and such. I have a smartphone if I want to browse the internet or play with apps (PS - why would they compare speed against the iPhone and not the iPod touch? They're basically the same, but still, they're not).

I think the Zune HD is great. Good interface + HD radio = win in my book.

Usually, i'm not let down when my farts aren't as smelly as anticipated. And the release helps easy any pain or discomfort. So no.

I have fixed that issue now.

Did anyone really think the Zune HD was going to be an all-in-one that could do everything well?

I only want the ZUne HD for music and video, and it looks fantastic for that. I don't care about internet on mp3 player. I would get iPhone or Pre for that.

I used to have an mptrip mp3 cd player. I had been wanting something like it to come around since like 1996, and in 2000 it was finally available! It was everything I wanted in an mp3 player. My only complaint is that the thing died after 7 years ... I haven't bought another since my car can play mp3 cds without an mptrip player ...

Thread title does not compute. You anticipate something to be bad and then are let down...so that means you like it?

I originally thought he meant something that you knew would be bad but you were anticipating anyway, and then when it actually came out you realized how bad it was. But I think the OP meant to ask if you have ever anticipated something that turned out to be really bad, causing you to be let down.

I came into this thread to bitch about my wife buying an Apple iPod Touch and it comes with defective audio jack...

I am better than op since not only am I in the wrong forum, I am in the wrong thread!

I don't get it, what's so great about the Zune 'HD' anyway? It'sjust another mp3 player...

I haven't really read the stats on it, except OLED display, and HD radio? If that is all, i think i'll stick with my iphone then.

Who buys and mp3 player to surf the internet?

That's my view. Ever since they announced the HD, I expected that it would be a media player with a fantastic screen and HD quality video and radio.

The apps and internet I always assumed would be secondary features, and would not be the same speed or quality as devices designed for mobile internet access. If you were let down it's because you did not understand that. All the people looking for an iPhone/touch "killer" will probably be disappointed, as well.

This is the reason I'm geeked about it too. I could care less about apps. How is the player itself? Anyone else have one?

gotta give apple credit/blame for this - they created an amazing centralized interface for apps on their iphone, allowed ipod touches to have it, and now everyone expects it for any and everything.

personally - I'd rather have MKV support over a full library of apps. I'd take it over a web browser to be honest.

That's one feature set I want, too. Out-of-box codec and container support has always been lacking on the major mp3 players, including iPod and Zune. Transcoding music and video files is an annoying task.

I know relatively few people use FLAC, matroska, ogg vorbis, etc, but it would be nice to have them supported.

The Matrix sequels and the Star Wars Prequels come to mind recently.

And doing laptop shopping lately it seems like they always botch something.

I love it. The interface is exceptionally easy to navigate, player controls are amazing and easy to use, even when locked.
Screen is amazing, and on full brightness it is rather beautiful. Really begs for playing videos, something I likely won't do much.

The device is actually smaller than I anticipated. The 32gb unit actually looks really nice too, as at first I wasn't a fan of the platinum color scheme only for the 32gb, but it grew on me after seeing it in person and holding it.

Only flakiness I've had is with docks. I have the old Zune 30gb dock in my car, without any of the adapter plates in it. Previously did that for my Zune 120 that replaced the 30gb, and the 120gb fit great without the old plate. Have the Zune 80/120's dock on my desk, still have the regular adapter plate in it. The HD fits in the 120's dock pretty well, no problems.
In the old dock, I can't get it to always plug in perfectly and won't get audio in my car.

Microsoft really needs to keep their promise of releasing adapter plates for new players. With the 120's dock, they say it would support all future players, only needing a new adapter plate.
So far, no new adapter plate. And they are basically hyping the HD Dock as if its the only one the Zune HD can plug into. That's only the case if you want HD video.

I might get the new dock, put the 80/120's dock in my truck, and call it at that. Would be great if I could get an adapter plate for the dock so it would be a perfect fit.

As for the player itself, and not accessories, it's a great player.
Probably related to the dock, I've had it freeze quite a few times in my truck while trying to get it to function properly in the old dock. Class hasn't started yet here at OSU so I haven't really been using the player to listen to while walking around, so can't say whether freezing is a random issue or only related to improper fit with the old dock.

However, I am stoked that now I can keep exactly 1 MP3 player. The hard drive players were terrible for using with exercise, so I kept my old Sandisk Sansa on hand for running and the gym.
Have an arm band for the Zune HD, and I'm happy. It fits snug and isn't too big, so running with it on my arm won't be a hassle.

This plus too many damn video games to remember. They never, ever live up to the hype.
