Have you been screwed or helped by the police?

I have nothing but respect for the Police Officers around these parts... Always helpful, quick when you need them and are never jerks by any means...
 
Where's the "Neither, ambivalent" option?

I dont' think I've ever been directly helped by the police, but they are still a vital part of society.

But they made absolutely no effort to find out who stole my car stereo, or offer me the opportunity to press charges against the gang of 9 that attacked me and my wife late one night.

But see thats the whole point... the only time they take action is when the crime is so severe that the damage is beyond repair.

mind you i hate highway patrol cops...i'm sure there's something more useful they could be doing that ticketing people for doing 15kmh over the limit 😉

My husband and i were at a local mall one Friday night, just walking from store to store after dinner.

We walked past a group of teens/20something boys who made a very rude comment to me and my husband said something like please stop and he gave them a rude stare and we kept walking.

We headed into Victoria Secret and they followed us. The husband got very upset at that point becuase they kept making very lude comments. As soon as we got into the store, I yelled, get the F* away from me. I got scared they were gonna really do something bad, so i yelled to get others attention.

I ran to the counter and asked to have secuirty called. they were still there and all of a sudden, this random guy in VS with his wife and kids comes up to me and asks whats going on. I tell him they are harassing me and he said to hang on. He takes them out into the mall and all of a sudden, they run away.

The guy comes back to the store, pulls out his wallet and shows me a sherriffs badge.
He was there just just with his wife, but he helped me very much!
 
I've gotten a stupid ticket, that's - number 1

I got my Explorer broken into and a lot of stereo stuff jacked. The idiots LEFT THE SCREWDRIVER THEY USED in the car and the cop got great prints. I never heard a word after that.

I realize cops have "better things to deal with" but that's hard to believe when I see the pigs waiting in the grass w/ radars while a lady 2 blocks down is getting abused/shot/stabbed. The system is screwed up.

LOL - all boys between the ages of 12 and 22 should be banned from the mall. Or just from the public in general. 😛

Well I went to court 3 times..... along with all the witnesses who saw the accident... the first 2 times, neither the cop who hit me, NOR the cop who was at the scene showed up. They only charged him with "failure to maintain proper control of the vehicle"... which is nothing... it's not even wreckless driving. Finally the 3rd time I had all the witnesses shlep themselves to court the cop who was at the scene showed up, but still not the guy who hit me.

The judge looked the case over, I explained to the judge all the hell I went through with the insurance (which is a whole other story), and the judge didnt even ask the officer for his opinion, he simply issued the maximum penalty available which was a fine and a few points, and issued a warrant for the guys arrest for failing to appear when summoned.

The insurance company did finally come through and I have my car back fully repaired and I didnt have to pay anything out of pocket.

Bear in mind the only reason things worked out as they did was because I was relentless in keeping track of witnesses, harassing them into coming to court 3 times, and argued with the insurance company for months until they got their crap together.

All because some drunk ass cop is above the law....

i know. it happens a lot, but the thing that was scarry is they looked extremely dangerous. I just felt more threatened then. they were, uhm... just very large, and tough looking.
At one point, that mall used to be very nice, and the past few years, it has really gone down hill, so there are many of those "types" that are there.
 
For every officer that makes a poor decision or is a bad cop, there are thousands and thousands and thousands that do their job flawlessly every day.
 
In the few situations that I genuinely needed them to do their job, they proved to be a terrible let down. They've always done an excellent job of writing me traffic tickets though.

My biggest argument is that police officers FOCUSED ON TICKETING SPEEDERS FOR STUPID AMOUNTS instead of doing a worthwhile duty is a waste.

If more parent woulds get off their lazy asses once in a while and discipline and educate their children on proper social behaviors, extreme measures like this would not be called for.

You obviously can't blame TV and video game makers for kid's behaviors, but rather the parents who let these things raise their children for them because they don't have the time to do it themselves.

Ah, I see. Well hey why don't you get a job as a police chief and fix the problem since you obviously have all the answers.

In all reality, police officers can't be everywhere at once and it takes a lot of work to crack down on what I assume you think is "worthwhile duty."

You probably just don't understand much about law enforcement, just like the people that gripe about those joining the military are war mongers.
 
Happiest I've ever been to see a cop was when this raving lunatic cornered us in downtown Seattle near Gameworks. My husband, the therapist, was just enthralled with trying to figure the guy out, but then one of Seattle's finest swooped and got the guy's attention so we could make our escape.

Conversely, we got stopped in Montana once back when the speed limit was "reasonable and prudent". We were going 90 and hubby decides to pass a trooper. Apparently that pissed the trooper off and one of his minions pulled us over and began rating about crosswinds (clear day) and that the speed limit was the same as it was in our home state. WTF? Had to fork over $100 which probably went to the Montana Militia beer and pizza fund.
