Well, comsidering it's the #1 song in the country, you SHOUDL be hearing it that many times :p Anyway, I love outkast, so it doens't really bother me :)

Their album is awesome - it good to hear some really creative stuff instead of the crappy, talentless, flash in the pan acts that have taken over the airways (Chingy, 50 Cent, Ting Tang Twins, etc.). I can't place Kelis into that group, though, because I have listened to her album and "MIlkshake" is probably the worst song on it. The rest of the songs actually have messages, and use a decent array of musical genres instead of just an RnB sound.

no man. fiddy/jayz songs dont make me angry. hey ya is just WAAAAY too upbeat. after too much upbeatness, its just makes me angry.

if you want to hear an aggravating song, listen to 'song cry'. its terrible. actually i think it might be jayz... but ive never heard it on the radio

I'm not kidding. I've NEVER heard this song. I listen to all of the popular stations here (except for the cRAP stations, country, etc.), and not a one ever plays Outkast while I'm listening.

Heard it once yesterday, along with the "Milkshake song".

If that's all the talent you need to get on the radio/MTV these days, I'm making a sellout rap album, taking my twenty million, and then spending it all on killing off everyone responsible for the two aforementioned songs.

I really listen to the radio, and on the odd occasion that I do, I still find this song fairly catchy.

I voted no :)

outkast has some serious talent. that song isnt NEAR their best song.

and they really arent rap, nor rock, nor classic, nor country, nor anything. they have their own tunes.

try listening to love in war, pink & blue, shows that they can actually sing too, o, and for that other thread, where they asked true songs, behold a lady.

Whoa!! People actually agree with me on this crap! My sister listens to that stuff constantly and I can't stand it! When I turn on the radio in my truck, I'll listen to any station but the cRap and country stations. I'll turn it to one station, listen for a while until one of the above songs comes on. (hey ya, milkshake, etc) I then proceed to turn it to another station and the SAME FSCKING SONG is playing!! I then turn it to another station and after about two good songs that do come on, THERE IT IS AGAIN PLAYING!!! FSCKING CLEAR CHANNEL STATIONS!!! PLAY SOME REAL MUSIC AND NOT THIS SH!T OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!!! Good thing I have a taste in classic rock...there is only one station in town that is safe from subjecting my ears to that crap. for you!! :| for every other one....

milkshake is a good song for a few reasons. its taking kelis whos had 3 albums but never had comercial success and getting her into the mainstream. wether you like it or not, its a catchy song that alot of people do like. now all those people buy her album and hear the other music thats on it and maybe even her older albums which all are completely different than milkshake. so this one simple song that everyone knows the words to now is gonna get her alot more money than she used to have.

and to everyone who says damn im gonna do a song now, try it and youd fail. its not that easy.

Who was that horrible musical act on SNL last night? They were so bad they were funny!

That was G-Unit with 50 cent.
People pay to hear that sh!t? There is some rap that is pretty good, that sh!t last night wasn't some of it!

I'm going to have to agree with the rap haters today.

I listen to a lot of rap and well.... the current stuff is starting to fall apart. some of jayz's black album stuff is pretty good. that song 99 problems is good.

50 cent though, is just sad. i mean, at first i thought "stunt 101" was good. well its catchy. i suppose its like listening to hey ya at first. but then it got played 500 times. it has no message in it like say a good tupac song, or the jay z black album stuff (i was really not fond of earlier jay z stuff , but now that he's older his songs seems to mean more), but g-unit made that terrible song. the chorus for the love of god is "i teach you how to stun, my lips be blinging" (though i am not sure).

and the snl thing was just horrible. i was already laughing just hearing the two announcers just say "and now joe featuring g unit...." but yeah those 3 rappers had 0 talent. joe has been an established talent for a while, but wow gunit sucks. unlike jay - z reebok shouldnt have given them a shoe. haha

the sad thing is its only gonna get worse. seeing as dead 2pac can only release so many more songs, with jay-z "retiring" to do other business junk (i.e. own part of the nets) we are left with eminem and the newer people , and crap like gunit.

take comfort that at least "shake your ass" i can yell really loud myztikal will now be shaking his ass in jail.

i guess you have to categorize songs rap/hip hop into 2 categories.

you have your chingy, 50 cent, cash money meanining less though upbeat garbage. but usually they have some sort of good beat, so they are half decent as club or party music occasionally. now you arent paying attention to the lyrics at a party or club so it doesnt really matter.

then you hear these songs on the radio enough times and realize how stupid they are since well (for me anyway) you're probably sitting in your car, not dancing, and trying to not go insane in traffic.

then there are songs that have real meaning, etc. that you cannot listen to at a club / party. i.e. most of everything 2pac has ever done. but i'd much rather listen to that in a car.

its funny the songs that become popular these days. my dad is 46 years old, and knows the lyrics to "where is the love" by black eyed peas since i guess he heard it enough times and likes it since its catchy. i guess catchy sells since even that song, after listening enough times you realize you are listening to repetition, an overly happy song (i didnt like this, and my friend who spends all his time creating beats absolutely hates this song for that) and well justin timberlake doing the female vocals which is just disturbing.

I don't know about the frequency of play on the radio as I listen to classic rock and oldies stations exclusively, however I can assure you that any time I have flipped past VH1 while surfing that song has been on.

The first time I heard hey-ya, I saw it flipping past MTV. For some reason, the video freaked me out, and set me against the artist. Can't comment on the 'milkshake' song, for which I'm thankful. I mostly listen to non-commerical alternative radio, and they tend to do a much wider rotation of songs than commercial.

Yeah it is getting old.

My girlfriend and her friend love it though, and that Milkshake song, and all that other garbage. But they like dancing and crap like that so they like to dance to the songs. I don't think they like them for their intelligent lyrical content.

*sigh*

I really wish people wouldn't judge bands on their singles. particularly outkast, who is one of the best groups of the 90's IMO.
This doesn't make sense. Could I judge these groups by their singles?
  • Pink Floyd
    Rolling Stones
    Black Sabbath
    The Who
    Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
    Lynard Skynard
    Led Zeppelin

Point? None of those groups have had a "single" in the past 15 years (that's a rather generous estimate). Radio and the music industry has changed immensly since any of those groups put out a single. Just because you can judge some groups from the 60's 70's and 80's based on their singles doesn't mean you can do that today.

Of course, you can do whatever you want, I'm just trying to point out that in many (most) cases today, the singles you hear on the radio are the most overplayed and often not even the best songs on the album.
