Yes they did. We've wasted trillions and look how retarded Boston got. People forced out of their homes at gun point, 4th amendment suspended. Pressure cookers taken off store shelves. Ridiculousness. America has turned into a land of scared pussies.

It's not inane if people start using their worthless heads to think instead of just taking the shit the government's shoveling.
It might have made people think the first time it was said, the tenth time, the hundredth time, or the thousandth. It has become nothing more than recycled dreck now by people who are paranoid of government trying to make fun of people who are paranoid about terrorists. One paranoid group making fun of another. Oh, the ironing.

There's nothing "paranoid" about not trusting the government. They have an abysmal history of abusing people, and the current plans/actions are clearly laid out for anyone to see. You don't even have to search through "alternative" sites. It's in MSM, and government documentation that anyone who took advantage of public schooling can read.

I don't worry about government. I worry about people. It's people that I don't trust because people have a far, far greater history of abusing other people than the "government." The government isn't any sort of entity as some want to make it out to be. It's a conglomeration of people and it's certain people within that conglomeration that are not to be trusted.

Pssssttt... don't tell anyone, but the gobermint is made up of people. The same people you don't trust, except they have far greater powers than the regular people that you don't trust.

Psssstttt. The government is made up of regular people. Nothing about being part of government makes them special. I decide to trust, or not trust them, on an individual basis. Painting government with a broad brush as some sort of inherent evil is lazy and a copout.

Pssssttt... you're contradicting yourself. You can't really have your cake, and eat a pie... or something like that.

The current POTUS might as well be Bush III with his assault on civil liberties.

Yeah, people wonder why the world is an increasingly shitty place when stupidity keeps getting rewarded.

Anybody can just throw a grenade into a crowded train/bus/restaurant/whatever and many will die. Let's just ban crowded places.

Depends on what their ultimate goal is.

Is it about spreading fear?
-If so, then yes. They have successfully put the American public in a state of perpetual unease. Americans have put up with increasingly intrusive security measures to ward off a perceived terror threat, regardless of whether it's real or not. The knee jerk invasion of Iraq was also largely based on this fear.

Is it about strengthening Islam in the west
-This is where it gets a bit more debatable. Arguably there is a fear of this religion and this greatly benefits the Jihadists. They have realized through fear they can virtually eliminate any criticism of their culture by simply threatening violence. The Danish cartoon controversy is a good example. That artist has a huge price on his head simply because he dared to mock the prophet. Some folks believe we should censor this type of expression to protect ourselves from harm. So in that case, the terrorists have won. Their belief is the superior one because the west gives it unprecedented special treatment.

On the other hand, it has lead to increased mistrust and harassment of Muslims living in the west.

Is it about spreading Islam?
If so, then they have failed. At least in the broader sense of getting folks to convert to the religion. 9/11 created hoards more atheists than it did Muslims. However, if it's about spreading radical Islam, then it succeeded. The Jihadist movement attracts a lot of disenfranchised young Muslim men. Much in the same way gangs attract young men in America. It gives them a sense of power and belonging. Jihadists prey on their frustrations and turn them into guerrilla warriors.

Turrists did not cause Bush's second term, John Kerry and the Democrat party did. The blame resides squarely with them. If they hadn't run Mr. Botox, Bush Jr. would have been a single term'er. It's the same with Obama's re-election, most people don't love the guy and realize Hope and Change was a load of garbage, but Romney was not a suitable alternative.

The two party system is <Charles Barkley>Turrrrrible</Charles Barkley>.

I don't see why Kerry is to blame here. Sure he doesn't work magic with his words like Obama. But the success of Bush's smear campaign to label Kerry as a flip flopper I think is a sad reflection of America's arrogance and pride.
It takes a level of humility to come out to admit you were wrong and change your view. It's not like Kerry changed his views to shamelessly pander in desperate attempts to gain support, *cough* Romney *cough*.

But it just shocks me to see him often referred as the greater of the two evils when compared to Bush, as if changing your views is somehow worse than plugging your ears and parroting terrists when no WMDs/links to al Qaeda were found.

There are plenty of domestic terrorists our government is turning a blind eye to. Best example, Texas fertilizer plant explosion.

Pffft. Those who don't just swallow whatever the government says and actually think for themselves know 9/11 was an inside job. Terrists? Yeah, a few guys with box cutters hijacked four planes and flew three into buildings. And speaking of buildings, it's hilarious that people think the Twin Towers fell from the planes... HELLO, they were demolished with planted charges! C'mon people, DO SOME RESEARCH, and WAKE UP!

The bankers are the government. The government is the terrorists. The government is now bigger. The bankers have more power. We have less rights.

I'd say they did pretty well for themselves.

Recent revelations about the NSA indicate: Yes. Terrorists have won. Freedom and privacy are rapidly eroding.

I'd say they have achieved one of their major goals. They are essentially fighting a "war" vs. a massively superior opponent. So of course they aren't going to win, as in they will never really defeat us. However, what they can do is significant and they have done it well.

The erosion of privacy rights is simply mind blowing.

Terrorists cannot lose, because a war on terrorism, much like a war on drugs, is impossible.
