Have police created a new radar system...?

Im about to take a different road to work. Saw a cop hiding in the same spot today again. They are obviously trying to catch people. I don't even want to give them that chance or pulling me over for speeding again, regardless if I am or not.

i got 2 tickets with my radar detector and it never went off. and like yours it worked on all bands and laser.

i no longer use a radar detector and have not had a ticket in 6 years. they offer a false sense of security and then you bitch when you get popped.

just get rid of it and go the speed limit and you wont have to make stupid threads like this.

FHP here has front and rear radar. They just line up the vehicle with blind curves and nail people left and right while chilling in their squad cars.

Like other's have said, older radar detectors simply aren't fast enough to catch those just targeting select vehicles.

I have never had a detector, I speed all the time and only have had a handful of speeding tickets in my life.

My worst one was 127mph. I got out of that. The others that stuck were written 15-20 over the limit and I just used Ticket Clinic.

I don't see what stops a prick cop from lying and saying he got you with radar when really he just noticed you were "going to fast".

My wife got a ticket several years ago and went to court to fight it. The cop testified she was driving a Lexus on I-65. In fact, she was driving a Honda Civic on I-70. Guess what? The judge sided with the cop. It is an extremely crooked system. So to answer your question -- not a damn thing.

You can actually bring the validity of radar equipment into question. They must produce evidence of the equipment used, when it was calibrated and by whom (usually a third party). I've heard of drivers beating the wrap even caught red handed by attacking the equipment. It'd be nice to have time, money, and energy to do that.

I lol'ed @ piggy. Made me think of the outrageous pigs from Angry Birds.

Also, I just read they can still ticket you for obstruction of justice if they pull you over and find you've got lidar jammers. The jammer itself is legal, but its use to absorb the light energy to deceive them is a crime. Sigh.

Little piggy gonna go to market if he wants.

I just read something saying that the LiDAR jammers are the same devices used for parking assist. Not illegal to use if you can prove that is what you are using it for 🙂

$100 radar detectors are just about worthless. If you aren't willing to buy one of the top detectors, save your money. Because that goofy thing on your windshield isn't going to do anything except make random noises.

Cobra. Don't remember the exact model #. It's about 4 years old now. Detects X, K, Ka, laser and S band (or something similar) which is generally only used by fire trucks and ambulances when they are running to an emergency.

Cobra is garbage. I have an Escort 9500ix. I had a cheaper Cobra before that and it was worthless, never went off. Bought the Escort and knock on wood I haven't been pulled over since (~4 years). Most of the cops around me use K/Ka and they are lazy as f*ck and just leave it on. The Escort can smell them a mile or more away. Only one city by me uses laser so far and I just mainly try to avoid that town.

I got caught for 75 in a 50 supposedly but the cop wrote a code for the detection type used which indicated it wasn't even a gun, so it was estimated. I got a traffic lawyer and even he said we can't fight that, only try to plea down.

Anyway, just drive the speed of traffic to stay relatively safe.

How did you get out of the 127mph ticket? And what is ticket clinic?

This was in the late 80's prior to ticket clinic and the like. The officer worked out at my same gym and when his little hootchie mamas found out he gave me a ticket, it cockblocked him.

He didn't show up for court and took the hit by getting written up. There were about 10-20 other speeders that walked that day.

Now a days if the officer doesn't show here it doesn't matter. Also today, I would have been taken to jail.

Nah, it really depends on the cop and the surroundings. My wife got pulled over for doing 105 in a 60 and she got off with a warning. 🙂 I've gotten out of a 90 in a 60 with a warning as well. But you're right, if you get pulled over for doing 127 on the highway, you better be real nice and apologetic to the cop. And even then it would be up to him if he wanted to take you to jail.

Also, this was in Texas, so other states or cities may not be as lenient.
