A) I have a radar detector, and at no time did it go off

Your detector has been compromised and, you are being tracked for the purposes of them 'arresting' you.

Within the next few days, the SWAT team will kick down the door to your trailer home and gun you down, claiming you tried to kill them by tossing the old car engine you use as a TV stand, at them.

I'm intending to get a laser jammer and a wired in radar detector. Anyone know what the best options are? I've been leaning toward the escort 9500ci but isn't it dated compared to their newer windshield versions? I was also under the impression their laser jammers aren't very good.

I didn't know people still used radar detectors. I thought those were a relic of the end of the last century.

I never speed if the limit is below 55. If its 55, I'll do 58-60. If I'm on the interstate and its 65 or 70, I'll do 75 or 80.

Aren't jammers completely illegal? I've used VEIL paint to some (I assume) success. www.laserveil.com/

I just read a full review of tests comparing V1 to the Escort Redline. Redline beat it in everything, except for rear detection, which in my eyes doesn't matter. Because ya know... We have eyes and everything to check our rear view mirrors.

It's just bs because even if you aren't speeding, a cop can pull you over and say you were, or somehow con you into admitting it. I know I was not doing 57mph, regardless if my radar detector is/was faulty.

Guess I'm lucky he wasn't feeling like a total dick this morning.

Clocking is also a valid way of catching speeders. Using a stopwatch between two set markers. Some small towns still use that method.

Radar jammers are highly illegal by federal law. Laser jammers are only illegal in a couple states.

Don't they work by just deflecting the light signal away from the car? Does it give the cop a bogus reading? Or no reading at all? I'd suspect if they aimed it at you like 4-5 times and got no readings, they'd assume you had one and pull you over anyway..Esp if it's illegal in your state.

Also for the record.. Are radar detectors illegal in most states?

Around here they use computer based laser systems. They can accurately determine your speed while traveling themselves. Basically no way to beat it, and any detector that can sense it can only tell you once you've been tagged. We also have air patrols with automatic cameras that calculate your speed based on specific markings on the roads.

The police vehicles all have cameras to scan license plates automatically. They also upgrade the fleets frequently and already have many of the new Ford Taurus PI replacing all the old Dodge Chargers (which had replaced the Ford C.V.). We love to spend money on the police equipment here, and none on actually training officers, instead just hiring the convicts and gang members for that (they love the power and work for cheap).

No, they use ZPE (zero point energy) to absorb the radar waves by creating a a rosenthal effect of overlapping signal refraction points. Since the output is less than 5 watts, you don't need a special transmission license or anything like that.

The cop will get an error reading I think or no response like he misaimed. You still know if you get tagged by one. If you get a hit you're supposed to slow down and turn it off so piggy doesn't get too suspicious.

I lol'ed @ piggy. Made me think of the outrageous pigs from Angry Birds.

Also, I just read they can still ticket you for obstruction of justice if they pull you over and find you've got lidar jammers. The jammer itself is legal, but its use to absorb the light energy to deceive them is a crime. Sigh.

Little piggy gonna go to market if he wants.

Perhaps I'll drive that slow when I'm 90. In the meantime, a radar detector is great to have. Beltronics is a division of Escort now, and you can get a decently reviewed Bel for $175 or so.

Radar detectors are worth their weight in gold when you're passing people like Slag. The safest way to pass, and the most fun, is to spend as little time as possible in the passing lane. To accomplish that, you may need to get up to 80 mph in the passing lane whilst blasting by aunt Edith creaking along at 55 mph. Radar detector FTW in those cases.

Most highway patrol in my area use laser, not radar.

And there are countermeasures for laser, depending on your state laws.

I have a 9500ix and a ZR4 jammer. I also run Waze on Android. No radar/laser speeding tickets for the last 4 years.

smartphones should record your speed, time, and location. would that be allowed as evidence in court?

I don't see what stops a prick cop from lying and saying he got you with radar when really he just noticed you were "going to fast".

For me its the fact that I get paid alot of money and its not worth lying in court over a ticket I really really really don't care about.

But thats me.

That seems to be fading out around here. You don't see the roads painted like you used to. I have an ancient something or other; I forget the brand. It works fine on everything I'm aware of that's out today. The best defense is paying attention. Be aware of your surroundings, and keep an eye on the road edges.

My big secret .... if I don't know the area, I at most go 5 mph over.

Otherwise, if I know they give tickets at X mph, I typically go 3-5 mph less than that.

In Connecticut, that means that 10 mph over the limit on the highway is OK. In New York State, once you get several hours out of the NYC area (like past Albany in any direction) you are wise to not exceed 72 in a 65.

And I didn't have t buy a radar detector.

Or my favorite trick. Find an idiot driving like a moron and stay 1/4 mile behind them. So far, I had this work once. The idiot got pulled over and I slowed back down to my normal pace.

And the sad truth, if you are doing 80 instead of 70 for a 30 mile drive you are saving All of 3.2 minutes. At 80, it will take 22.5 minutes. At 70, it will take 25.7 minutes. At the same time, you can get a speeding ticket and you are wasting money on lesser fuel economy. So, what is it that is so critical that you save that 3.2 minutes most of the time?

There was one time I was speeding and didn't care. my dog flipped himself over a baby gate when it was a puppy and landed on it's head. For a few hours, he was wimpering (among other things) every time he had to move. Something was wrong with his neck or skull and it was midnight so I had to do something like a 60 mile drive to an all night emergency room for pets. I was doing about 85 mph. And if I got pulled over I'd tell him what happened and I fear that my dog is going to die (which was the honest truth). So, that was one time where I felt saving 10 minutes might actually matter.

Does the ZR4 integrate withe the escort in any way? It seems kind of clunky to me to have 2 discreet systems, but I've never read anything particularly good about the escort laser jammers.
