Have iphone 4--Any reason NOT to get Iphone 5?? Or wait for 5s?

Hi,

I have an iphone 4 and wanting to upgrade(if I had 4s with better camera, I would wait)

Any reason NOT to get the Iphone 5??

OR Wait for 5s?

Just upgrade. I don't foresee Apple adding anything to their next phone that makes it a need-to-have over their current model. It'll just be a bit faster, have a slightly better screen, a better camera, possibly more storage, and likely better battery life. Everything gets a little bit better, but there's not likely to be anything earth shattering.

Alternatively, depending on your carrier, you could just get a used 4S and stick with that until the next refresh.

If you want your 2-year upgrades to have the biggest bang for your buck (as well as being noticeable from the previous version), upgrade on full numbers, not "S" versions.

Although some rumors are saying Apple is going to announce something this Spring. But I think that will be a new iPad or a t-mobile iPhone 5.

I'd go for the 5. I've got a 5 as my personal phone and 4s as my work phone. As far as speed I can notice small differences over extended periods of use. I can jump between apps a touch quicker on the 5.

The screen, believe it or not, is a huge upgrade. Initially I thought some of the reasoning was questionable such as resolution and to add black bars to apps. But they've implemented everything extremely well.

I'm also amazed by the thinness and lightness. Again I was skeptical at first because I thought the 4s was the perfect mix of weight and thinness. Now my 4s feels heavy and bulky. They could have added more battery to it, but it's still really good. I can usually charge it every other night with moderate use.

You won't be disappointed with the 5.

Get the 5. The 5S could come in the Spring or October, upgrade now since your ready or you can wait forever for the next one. You'll be blown away by the speed increase and the screen. Camera is really good too.

The iPhone 4 is too slow IMO, and yeah, the camera is pretty mediocre.

Personally, I don't care that the iPhone 5 is lighter though. The weight of the 4 doesn't bother me.

I wouldn't get the 4S either. The 4S is decent and much faster than the 4, but the screen is the same size as the 4, and neither have LTE.

Note though, in my case I went from the iPhone 4 --> Android, but will reassess in a year or two. Maybe at that time I'll go with the iPhone 5S or 6.

I'd upgrade. I just went from a 4S to a 5, waited a while because was kinda iffy on it and also because I bought off-contract and wanted the price to drop even if just a little.

LTE, camera upgrades, screen, thin/light, speed boost, no brainer

I don't really think 7 is gonna all that better than 5 let alone 6...If the original 4 was the Conroe then our current gen phones are already the Sandy Bridges of phones. Can't really make the screen bigger, DPI any denser, battery life any longer, and even the most promising SoC part are hitting silicon walls.

I think the spring iPhone rumors are TMobile as well. They announced during CES they were going to start selling Apple parts within 4 months. Timing makes sense.

I'd advise getting the iPhone 5 as well. I don't think there's anything coming from Apple in the near term, and the iPhone 5 is a nice improvement in pretty much all respects (CPU, display, camera, LTE, battery) over the iPhone 4 and 4S.

I would get the 5. The camera on the 5 is even better than the 4S. Then there's weight reduction, 2x speed, lte, and better screen.

I'm bumping BlakeBang minus all the Lumia and S3 stuff... What are your reasons for upgrading? The variation in performance between the 4S and 5 isn't that extreme, so unless you just want an iPhone 5 I don't see any reason to upgrade right now.

Definitely upgrade! You get a faster phone with a better screen and camera. The extra 0.5" really makes a difference. It's lighter as well.

You can probably sell your old 4 on Ebay and make up a lot of the cost of the cost. When I upgraded from my 3GS to the 4S, I sold my old 3GS for $50 more than I originally paid for it. (and my work pays for my phone service, so it was in fact $50 profit for me, along with free phone service)

So while I've loved the 4, it might end up being my first and only iPhone. I'm just sick of getting bogged down waiting for JBs. That's only going to get worse as time goes on.

As far as I know, even the latest and greatest Android phones like the Droid DNA get rooted very quickly. That's very enticing to me.

The lack of a JB is also why I have not considered moving to a 5 even though I have an upgrade available to me. Honestly, the amount of time it has taken to this point for a iOS6 jailbreak makes me wonder if it is worth staying with an iPhone at all. I'm pretty sure most of the things I use the JB for can be done without root on Android. I like my iPhone but it is probably time to move on.

Disagree. The S versions are all improved hardware inside everything you got previously. If you're gonna be waiting 2 years regardless you might as well get the one that had any hardware problems figured out and includes other features.

I went from an iPhone 4 to 5, it was a great upgrade. The 4 always felt "fine" to me, but after getting the 5, I could see just how slow the 4 was. Also the larger screen is soo nice!

Only reason not to go from 4 to 5 would be if you wanted to switch to Android.
