on my truck i have all season/ terrain tires, and while i generally have little problem in light snow, on ice they are pretty much necessary to me. gives you traction, no sliding. here in az there isnt really a huge need for them a lot, but i have needed them up by snowbowl a few times on those side roads that arent plowed regularly like the highways.

I see.. but all seasons really suck in serious snow too. I've slipped once and that was on black ice. Ic ouldn't help it. Stop sign. I tried to stop. SLOWLY too. I just slid through the street. Once at night. The next morning I tried to roll up to the stop sign. I slid right through again.

Anyway, I use Michelin HydroEdges which are probably the best set of all seasons you can pick up. NEVEr a problem in light snow or on the highway in my numerous trips to the Sierras. I can't really tell if chains help since we have to put them on all the time anyway and it's not like I can run a chains on/off test.

but tires to me are the most important. i had a friend leave an Audi A3 w/ Quattro in the snow because they got stuck and wait till they plowed the roads. Summer tires suck.

You live in a place that snows in the winter, and you didnt put tires accordingly on your transportation.

Self own.

the cooper dominators i used to use arent that great in ice/ snow, but the pathfinders i have been using for a couple years now are pretty good.

good tread, and my truck is heavy enough to push it through most ice and still grab street.once the ice gets over half an inch tho, it seems i need chains. this is just from experience tho, of which i only have minimal experience in "real" snow/ winter weather. northern az gets some good snow and ice, but its not minnesota snow. i didnt even know there was a summer tire... i use a more aggressive tire with a high heat rating for the work sites i visit, as well as the high heat here in the az summers.

snow is great when you have the luxury of staying inside or even playing outside... but it gets significantly less fun when you've got to wake up at 5 am and shovel out your steps/car/driveway/sidewalk.

Studded tires blow goat on anything but ice. All you need is a decent set of snows and a brain to drive in snow.
Speaking of no snow, I sooo want to be a weatherman. You get paid decent $$ even when you suck at your job and you're wrong 80% of the time.
Once again, here in northern VT we were supposed to get socked w/ snow. I was stoked, my kids were stoked, the tractor was fueled and the big ass blower was connected. We woke up to a whopping 4". Shit, I won't even bother taking off my Tevas to walk around in 4". What a let down.

What I do hate about snow is having to brush off and de-ice the car 4 times per day. Once in the morning, once to go for lunch, another time to go back to work after lunch then another time to go home. ARG. I forgot how annoying this is. There has to be an easier way to deal with snow/ice on the car.

I'm thinking a couple good batteries, inverter, and powerful heater. :D

Is that man inches or woman inches? :)

Some states/areas don't use salt or chloride on the roads any more because it kills the trees and vegetation and ends up in our lakes/streams/rivers/water table. But they will still generally use sand/cinder in bad areas.

It's just snow inches .... lol

They use tons of salt in IL still ... but I know Wi usually uses just sand, except maybe some salt inside of big cities....
