I know that downloading music is illegal but i believe that the RIAA and the production companies brought it on themselves. I have a 128 disc folder full of $15.00+ cd's with one or two songs on it that i like. The fact is that people were ripped off so badly for so long that when the opportunity came along for free music, they jumped at the opportunity with little guilt. I honestly believe that if someone had come out with something like iTunes when all of this was starting 4 years ago, much of the piracy would have been avoided. if i could have purchased a quality version of any song i like for $0.99 i dont know if i would have hassled with finding one on napster. the fact is that the RIAA and its clients were so fat and happy at the time that they completely ignored the digitalization of music, only waking up in time to see the stampede dust pass them by. They are now trying their best to hold it back but there is too much out there.
