Some months before the 2016 General I opined over dinner that Donald Trump was destroying the R Party. I don't see where I was wrong in that. What's left? They bought the Big Lie. They refused to approve the two impeachments of DJT. They've rejected the few of their own that publicly confessed to the party's sins.
I've never voted for a Republican in my life and figure I never will. If the R party dies, something else has to emerge because one party major dominance isn't healthy. Maybe rank choice voting would revise the outlook. That and the elimination of the electoral college.
Liz Cheney is suggesting in a piece that's appeared at The New York Times what I've been thinking for quite a while: A new major party may/should emerge.
Here's a link to Liz Cheney's just published piece that will penetrate the paywall for the next 2 weeks, i.e. until Oct. 5, 2024:

Liz Cheney Suggests a New Political Party May Be Needed
Ms. Cheney, a longtime Republican, said that the G.O.P. “has rejected the Constitution in the name of supporting Trump” and that Mike Johnson should not be speaker.
