Has anyone heard TANNOY speakers?

My dad's friend has this $50000 speaker set from TANNOY ( I never heard of this brand before) with weird looking amps in glass tube. Anyways I sampled some of the classical music LPs on this thing and it just blew me away. Imaging was so crystal CLEAR across all freq. and Bass note so accurate I almost felt I was in the concert hall. I almost threw out my klipsch 2.1 out of window when I came home. I need to make more money🙁

This is exactly why audiophiles should never listen to anything worth more than how much they can spend, right then and there. I feel for you. 🙁

Yes, Tannoys are classic. Did it use a short horn for the woofer?

It was called something Westminster.. is this ring any bell? I am trying to search a web for the image..

Those things are massive, I've only read about such Tannoys...I've heard more reasonable speakers from them, of <$5K variety.

Quite the treat you had there, I'd love to experience that.

the sucker who can afford them. which means that he's not really a sucker, but a guy whose salary is so massive that he carries your annual salary as pocket change. of course, it could be that he's fiscally irresponsible.

they are awesome speakers...we got tannoy speakers in our studio, and trust me i hear stuff that i dont hear otherwise .. even on mp3's .. but seriously they are awesome speakers..

if i got the money i am so going to build a solid 2.1 with those.

With the Westminsters? The speaker dips to 18 Hz with its 15" driver. You don't need to add a subwoofer.

I use to work in High End Audio and know the huge price markups. Those $50,000 speakers are probably only worth $10,000 or less. The raw components aren't that expensive. The woodworking is usually what ends up costing the most and of course the shipping cost.

They laugh all the way to the bank.

Speakers may be one of the few things where R&D costs less than actual production. Wilson Audio uses a very involved painting process (but that still doesn't justify the exorbitant prices).

either way, I can feel the awesomeness about to brew from those bad boys.

I'd sleep with them and whisper sweet nothings into its cone

just like everything else, when you get into high end audio you pay a lot for each tiny improvement. you can get really good sounding speakers for a few grand.

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh. 😉

Noticed how he capitalized "High End Audio"...it's obviously the name of a store. No confusion as to what they sell there. But seriously, I worked hifi for a while, which can be difficult for a young guy, but the markup's quite insane, I agree.

i had a buddy in college that worked at circuit city for a summer, afterwards he was a qualified expert on all things "High End Audio" and would tell me about it constantly.
