Has anyone ever stayed at a hostel?

Looks like i'll be getting to Vegas a day earlier then the rest of my co-workers (we're going for a convention) and I won't be able to check into my hotel room until the next day after 3pm...

I don't really want to stay up that entire night (i'll be there 10pm the day before) and the entire next day of the convention, then probably some partying afterwards, etc, etc, -- i'll end up staying up for more then 48 hours I assume...

I can "handle it", but why bother when a hostel is only $20 for the night and a $10 cab ride down the strip...

So, Anyway, just wondering what other people's experiences have been with hostels. Has anyone stayed at one in Vegas?

I don't think i'd have any problem other then the fact that i'd be sleeping in a room full of strangers, which doesn't bother me too much, however, the fact that my luggage (probably only 1 of those bags with wheels and a small duffle bag) may not be safe -- I doubt someone goes to a hostel to steal, but ya never know... I may have some value items with me. I wonder how good their "security" is, as the two i'm looking at say they have security lockers -- you think a few bags of luggage would fit in something described simply as a "security locker" -- i'm thinking one of those orange lockers w/ the quarter slot and key at bus stations and amusement parks, heh.

Doh, i've heard of it, but haven't seen it yet....

The one I was thinking about staying at is this one http://www.sincityhostel.com/

Ugh. their site's text size is so small, sometimes I hate style sheets -- my eyes hurt now.

edit: hmm their site says they only cater to the international traveler :-\ hmmm

edit2: www.usahostels.com is another one in vegas, they appear to allow out-of-state college students, hmm, I can still use my college ID, I only graduated last May....hmmm

I've never been to one but, in germany i heard its legal for prostitution. So they opened up a Hostel. It's huge, from what i read it can house 4000 guests and close to 100 prostitutes.

Dude, the one at uashostel is cheap enough to be worth while but the other one is like $37.
Pretty sure you can stay at a Motel 6 or something for $40.
You're gonna lose in Vegas anyway so whats an extra $20 ??

I think both are $20 or less, the $40 is for the 'private' rooms...

Yeah, I may just look into a motel room, heh, but the experience!! what about the experience!! heh

spent one night up at Whistler, BC skiing. I was too drunk that night to notice or care, it seemed OK in a foggy, blurry sorta way:p

Oh, man i LOVE hostels! You should volunteer at your local hostel--i did in grad school. This is a GREAT way to meet foreign women (for those of you that are not scared by them in general or foreign women specifically).

I've never stayed at a hostel in the states but have all over the rest of the world. If you're alone in a city this is a far better option than anything else. You will meet all sorts of people and often they have a bar attached to the hostel which makes it easy to meet people and have a good time. Remember, the people there will mostly be youngish people from all over the world and as homercles337 says great way to meet foreign women...plus the things people will do when they are far from home... :p
