Has anyone else had a fast one pulled on them by Comcast?

About 3-4 weeks ago, I was at my mom's house and the Internet is through Comcast under my brother's name. No CATV service. He's was paying $54.99. The Internet was acting up so I called Comcast to see what was up. The CS rep checked the line signal strength and said the signal was fine but would send someone out to change the cable modem (which someone did come do later). After the call was complete, I asked if there was promotions for current customers and the CS rep came back and said there was Internet/CATV for $19.99/29.99 respectively as a bundle with a $25 installation fee for the cable, good for 12 months without any contract. I promptly signed him up for that.

Weeks later he gets a bill for Internet/CATV for $42.95/59.99 with a contract attached. WTF!? Any way to fight this bullshit short of canceling? There's only two ISPs in the area - the other being AT&T DSL at a whopping 768Kbps.

If you are truly willing to cancel then I would use that leverage, and ask for a cancellation. They will typically respond with an offer much like the one you signed up for.

Yeah, but how do you prove what was offered by the CS rep?

I'm no longer there, but I told him to cancel the service altogether if they didn't fix it.

Well clearly, the CS rep knew this was an existing customer since I called about Internet connection issues.

So you signed him up for a different package? Sounds like he could just tell the CSR that an unauthorized party made the request and he isn't signing shit. Then go further and say that if they allow these types of things to just happen he really isn't interested in being their customer.

Should get a decent deal out of it.

How do they prove you agreed to the terms?
I dunno. When the work order to put in the CATV was initiated?

I remember my roommate needed me to pay the comcast bill one month, ordinarily he did it, but something had come up in his family and he wasn't going to be able to. I didn't have a checkbook or anything like that, and so I went online and put in my debit card info. The next month comcast tried to take their money out of my account. The problem was, I don't use that account that much, and it went negative. It apparently takes all of 2.7 seconds to accidentally sign up for automatic billing, and 3 MONTHS!!!! to turn it off.

I wouldn't go that route since it was ok'ed by my brother. Just not for the exorbitant monthly fees that they are charging.

Maybe, but I'm betting he doesn't care. Do these guys make commission off signing up new services for customers?

Via the phone? They could only prove that by going to the recording which would then prove your side as well.

Update: Brother called Comcast yesterday and Comcast initially refused to honor the offer that was made over the phone stating that the offer was only for new customers. Also that the CATV service was put in as an addition to the existing service with no reference to the offer. He called later on in the day and got a different service rep that gave him what was agreed to, albeit, for only 6 months. Will have to see if this whole process will need to be repeated again next month. And they refused to send anything in writing confirming what was agreed to.

Grrr....

If anyone has had Comcast service at any point, then by definition they have had a fast one pulled on them.

Well, they are the only viable Broadband provider in the area. The only other option is AT&T DSL which max out at 768Kbps.
