I've been pulled over by a CHIP before in the past due to a expired license tag. I had all the legal papers because the DMV was slow in processing the paper work. No ticket or warning was issued...

I was once stopped on the NJ turnpike for going 1 mile below the speed limit. That is the reason the trooper gave for his stopping me.
For awhile I was getting stopped so often on the NJ turnpike that once after this trooper was following me for a couple of miles I pulled on to the shoulder. The cop crossed three lanes of traffic and pulled over onto the center medium. Drove in reverse and then crossed three lanes of traffic to get behind me. He jumped out of his car and ran to mine with his hand on his gun.
He angerly demanded that I tell him what the problem was. I told him that the cops were stopping me so often that I pull over whenever they follow me. He stared me for about 30 seconds and walked away.![]()

I haven't... but once while we were on our way up north (Rte 2 in da U.P.) we got pulled over for doing 80 in a 65 (I think). He gave us a warning since it was 6 am, we were the only ones on the road for miles (other than the State Trooper), and my wife was driving.
Me driving = instant ticket. lol

One was doing 105 in a 45. And yes, he let me go. Yes, I'm serious. Denver cops are (usually) the coolest I've ever seen. In all of Colorado at the very least.
Looks like the "winners" and a "story" could be involved. Were they Highway Patrol/State Troopers? They are the least flexible.
. . . many years past, i was able to get away with "a lot" driving and was lucky [generally] with police officers (yep, even 80 in a 25 and "racing" another car to boot . . . but that's another story with almost unbelievable luck on my part that i didn't get a ticket or go to jail). . . then i got older [wiser] and slowed down.
Couldn't you just clean the plate on the spot? It wasn't like a 'fix it' ticket, was it . . . that'd be damn inconvenient for just a dirty plate ("hey officer, please sign off my ticket, i cleaned my plates" -Originally posted by: JRS4224
I got pulled over doing 81 in a 65 somewhere in Upstate NY and the guy gave me a ticket for a dirty license plate.

Any way, long story short - we got on a stretch of highway in town, heading down town and decided to punch it - hit 115 in no time and figured that was good enough, got the speed limiter eliminated. And was exiting onto another street and slowed to maybe 90 then started accelerating again. I had a radar detector but it didn't matter - cop said he clocked me at 105 and I believed him. So I gave him the story as to why I was testing the car out at such speeds. He didn't seem too happy, and I thought I would get the hammer - but for whatever reason he chose to let me go. Can't really give a reason why, but this wasn't the first time, nor was it the last time a Denver Cop let me go. I've had some pretty strage tales of getting let go, and like I said - I love Denver cops. Any of the suburbs of Denver though, you will get a ticket no matter what.
