I've been pulled over by a CHIP before in the past due to a expired license tag. I had all the legal papers because the DMV was slow in processing the paper work. No ticket or warning was issued...

I was once stopped on the NJ turnpike for going 1 mile below the speed limit. That is the reason the trooper gave for his stopping me.

For awhile I was getting stopped so often on the NJ turnpike that once after this trooper was following me for a couple of miles I pulled on to the shoulder. The cop crossed three lanes of traffic and pulled over onto the center medium. Drove in reverse and then crossed three lanes of traffic to get behind me. He jumped out of his car and ran to mine with his hand on his gun.

He angerly demanded that I tell him what the problem was. I told him that the cops were stopping me so often that I pull over whenever they follow me. He stared me for about 30 seconds and walked away.
Let me guess: you're black:(

I'd guess indian, but, that's just a hunch (see alias).

As to why he was being pulled over a bunch... I bet there's a backstory to that he didn't share. :p

Me driving = instant ticket. lol

I don't think they give tickets in the U.P. Not quite that advanced yet.

I got pulled over doing 81 in a 65 somewhere in Upstate NY and the guy gave me a ticket for a dirty license plate.

One was doing 105 in a 45. And yes, he let me go. Yes, I'm serious. Denver cops are (usually) the coolest I've ever seen. In all of Colorado at the very least.

Looks like the "winners" and a "story" could be involved. Were they Highway Patrol/State Troopers? They are the least flexible.

. . . many years past, i was able to get away with "a lot" driving and was lucky [generally] with police officers (yep, even 80 in a 25 and "racing" another car to boot . . . but that's another story with almost unbelievable luck on my part that i didn't get a ticket or go to jail). . . then i got older [wiser] and slowed down.

No, I guess my story doesn't really relate to the thread because it wan't highway patrol. I just thought I'd mention it.

Story goes like this, had a 94 Trans Am and after I got it I realized that there was a speed limiter at 105 mph. So the first thing I did was buy that super chipz programmer for the LT1 motor and changed it, along with some other computer tweaks. Well of course, after I changed it I had to make sure it worked. Well me and my friend decided to take it for a night out on the town, bare in mind I was only 20 still at this point so a night out involved no drinking or anything like that.

Any way, long story short - we got on a stretch of highway in town, heading down town and decided to punch it - hit 115 in no time and figured that was good enough, got the speed limiter eliminated. And was exiting onto another street and slowed to maybe 90 then started accelerating again. I had a radar detector but it didn't matter - cop said he clocked me at 105 and I believed him. So I gave him the story as to why I was testing the car out at such speeds. He didn't seem too happy, and I thought I would get the hammer - but for whatever reason he chose to let me go. Can't really give a reason why, but this wasn't the first time, nor was it the last time a Denver Cop let me go. I've had some pretty strage tales of getting let go, and like I said - I love Denver cops. Any of the suburbs of Denver though, you will get a ticket no matter what.

Couldn't you just clean the plate on the spot? It wasn't like a 'fix it' ticket, was it . . . that'd be damn inconvenient for just a dirty plate ("hey officer, please sign off my ticket, i cleaned my plates" - ).

that is pretty good.

My "best" story of all time comes from the mid-70s in Marin County. i was into street racing (being young, confident and a pretty good driver) and driving the country roads of San Anselmo's Sleepy Hollow. . . . now it was really early in the morning and there was only "us" - me in a modified TR6-4a-irs and the other car was a Datsun 240z . . . doing about 80mph and accelerating out of the gentle corners . . . only "problem" was the speed limit was 25mph and TWO cops got us both on radar "racing".

Now this is a normally 'go to jail' scenario where you would explain to the judge why you should be able to keep your liscence until the trial. :p

Well, the officer was pretty testy and started to write the ticket . . . he told me the other car was caught up ahead and he hadn't decided if i was going to jail or not. At that instant his radio crackled to life and he walked back to his patrol car . . . . a few seconds later he ran up, tossed the liscence at me saying "you are one lucky SOB tonight - i have an emergency call - pray that i never stop you again!"

He drove off with the lights blazin and a few seconds later the other cop car that had stopped the 'Z' flew by . . . i think a fast food was being robbed at gunpoint.

i was lucky

UPDATE It's been about 10 days and i thought you'd like an update. Evidently my "stop" was part of a CHP crackdown on speedeers. . . . 2-3 cops are patrolling where one was the norm. And i have to say it worked - whereas 3/4 of the drivers used to routinely fly by at 10-15 miles over the speed limit - they have slowed to nearly the speed limit.

i guess we're all now 'saving gas'.

How about this one:

Summer of 1990. Twice on the 405 freeway I was going 75-80 AND tailgating the car in front when I suddenly heard a voice outside "Slow down, and stop tailgating!!", looked over and a CHP patrol car was driving behind me in the next lane with the officer shouting on the megaphone. Talk about luck.

I was driving through Missouri on a sunday afternoon, on interstate 70 between Kansas City and St Louis. The traffic was bumper to bumper, and I got pulled over and received a warning for following too closely.

About 1980. Last time I got stopped by any law officer.

I've gotten pulled over by highway patrol once for doing 65 in a 55 on a basically empty country road... I think he was going home... I'm guessing he just wanted to make sure I wasn't drinking since all he gave me was a verbal warning to slow down...
